Emigranten⸗Angelegenheit.
men haben wollen.
(cf. No. 22 des „Lutheraners“.) Secr.

...to found, as soon as at all possible, an English institution for the
training of youth under the special oversight of our synod.
"How" is this institution to be founded? Further steps toward
establishing it were left to the existing committee, which was permitted
to add three more members. Only orthodox Lutherans of German and English
tongue should be approached for help; if need be, negotiations should
also be opened at once with the Tennessee Synod (whom our delegates are
to press to take this matter, and whatever else serves the welfare of
the Church, to heart), either so that they might support us financially
or make common cause with us generally.
Emigrant Affairs.
Pastors Brohm, J. H. Bergmann, and J. Birkner of New York have for some
time now begun to give our immigrating fellow believers counsel, both
spiritual and material, and to direct them to places where they can find
satisfaction both spiritually and materially. They have made this
undertaking known through printed handbills. At the request of the
gentlemen concerned, the Synod now declares the matter its own, regards
the undertakers as a committee of the Synod, and will reimburse them in
full for their costs and expenses.
In later printings of the said notice, the earnest warning against
secret societies (lodges) should not be forgotten.
Division of the Synod into District Synods, and the New Synodical
Constitution.
All the synodical delegates present declared, on inquiry, that they had
a mandate from their congregations to consent to the intended division
of the Synod. Even Pastors Röbbelen and Holls, who had opposed it last
year, now voted for the said division. So this alone would no longer
have stood in the way, had the St. Louis Ministerial Conference not been
prevented from carrying out, in time, its assigned task of submitting
the constitution it had drafted to the various district conferences for
review, etc. As it stood, then, the constitution just mentioned first
had to be examined and corrected by the Synod itself, and carrying out
the intended division had to be postponed to next year's convention. The
former has been done. The said constitution was thoroughly discussed
across 8 main sessions, amendments and additions made where found
necessary, and it was finally resolved: "that the constitution thus
adopted by the present convention be published, for the information of
all congregations of the synodical district, in the *Lutheraner*."* The
congregations belonging to us are to examine this draft in due course
and send in their statement to next year's convention as to whether they
wish the division carried out according to the principles contained in
it, etc.
* The constitution has already been handed to the editor for inclusion
in the *Lutheraner*. (cf. No. 22 of the *Lutheraner*.) Secr.
