feſſor Loy einen Hilfseditor für den „Standard“ zur Seite zu geben;

X. The Publication of an English Homiletical-Churchly Quarterly.

In the discussion of this matter it was pointed out that we now have in the English language only such periodicals as are devoted to the instruction and edification of the people; but we had another need besides, namely to pursue theology for the advancement and deeper grounding of the pastors, and this purpose would be attained through the publication of a theological periodical. The usefulness of such a publication for the common good and for the dissemination of the theological treasures of our Church in the English language, which is so poor in sound Lutheran theological literature, was obvious. "Homiletical" it should be called, because in it sermons too are to appear in a continuous series, in order to come to the aid of the need for good English model sermons.

After mature consideration it was

1. resolved that the Synodical Conference [*Synodal⸗Conferenz*] request the Professors F. A. Schmidt and M. Loy to publish an English homiletical-churchly quarterly, and that the Honorable Synod of Ohio be asked to give Professor Loy an assistant editor for the "Standard" [the Ohio Synod's English periodical];

2. resolved to refer this matter to the individual synods belonging to the Synodical Conference, that they decide whether they wish to approve the English quarterly to be published by the above-named as a synodical organ.

In this connection it was further 3. resolved to call upon the individual synods in union with the Synodical Conference to approve the resolutions adopted by the Synodical Conference for the publication of the "Miſſionstaube" [Mission Dove] and of the "Pioneer."

XI. Request for Support of the Deaf-Mute Institution in Norris, Michigan.

Pastor C. Rohe appealed in a rather long address to the help of the Synodical Conference for the beautiful and noble work of the instruction and education of poor deaf-mutes in a Lutheran institution. He pointed to the faithfulness and diligence of those who had so far worked at this institution, to the visible success with which, under God's blessing, the work of the teachers had been accompanied; but he also did not forget to lay to the heart of all present the urgent need in which the institution finds itself for lack of money, which need is so great that, if it is not remedied, in the end the whole work must come to a standstill; whereupon

it was resolved: to commend to all synods connected with the Synodical Conference the cause of the Deaf-Mute Institution.
