dringend empfiehlt;

Little Rock, to instruct privately further such Negro boys as show good gifts, for the purpose of their later attending a gymnasium or seminary, yet with the restriction that the actual purpose of the mission not be impaired by it, and with the assurance that the necessary expenses for schoolbooks and the like be granted according to the direction of the Committee. —

Missionary Berg laid two more requests before the Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] on this occasion.

His first request was that the Conference might give him a second teacher for the Negro school in Little Rock, since already 138 children attend it and the work is too much for one teacher. There is also the prospect of increase, and with it the danger, if no remedy is provided, of losing children again, especially since the city intends to establish a public school in the immediate neighbourhood. Above all, in this way the missionary would be put in a position to do more mission work among the Negroes.

The Synodical Conference recognized the great importance and necessity of this matter and therefore resolved: that the Mission Commission be instructed to try to obtain a second teacher for the school in Little Rock, to take in hand the necessary modest school building, and to ask for gifts of charity for this in the "Miſſionstaube" [Mission Dove]. The wish was also expressed that the request appearing in the "Miſſionstaube" be taken up likewise by the other organs of the Conference. —

The second request of the missionary was that the Conference hasten the printing of the new English catechism so that the missionary can use it at the beginning of his school term.

Since the committee elected for the preparation and approval of

a new English translation of the Small Catechism

had completed its work, it was resolved:

a. that the Synodical Conference hereby accepts the new English catechism, as it has been prepared by its Committee, and urgently recommends it to all synods connected with the Synodical Conference;

b. that every synod within the Synodical Conference be permitted to have the text of the English catechism recommended by the Synodical Conference printed.

2. Report of the Committee for the Audit of the Negro Mission Treasury.

"The undersigned committee takes the liberty of reporting to the Honorable Synodical Conference that, according to the treasurer's report of the Negro Mission, the receipts for the last year, from July 1878 to July 1879
