Morgen⸗ ꝛc. Gebeten u.
Schlüſſel, welche in den gewöhnlichen kleinen Lutheriſchen Katechismen be⸗

timore enthaltenen Satz No. 3.: „die Gemeinde verwahre ſich allezeit da⸗

No. 4. jener Beſchlüſſe wird dahin abgeändert:

Long Green,
23. September d.

morning prayers, etc., etc." — The Synod must advise against
using this catechism, because it omits the doctrine of the office of the
keys found in the ordinary Small Lutheran Catechisms, leaves out several
sentences in the morning prayers, etc., adds material to the table
graces, and alters the Württemberg children's examination.

In this connection the lack of a Lutheran catechism with brief
explanations was keenly felt, and the Synod therefore resolved:

to have the Small Catechism of Luther printed, according to the older
Darmstadt recension, at the expense of the publishing fund.

Likewise a primer is also to be printed at the Synod's instance, the
editing of which has been entrusted to the members of the St. Louis
Preachers' and Schoolteachers' Conference.

5. The Synod must express its surprise over the statement, no. 3, contained
in the declaration of the Baltimore congregation: "the congregation
guards itself at all times against the Synod introducing private confession
with the abolition of general confession," since the Synod has stated
clearly enough in its constitution that it will never infringe on the rights
of the congregations, with which the Baltimore congregation could have
been fully satisfied.

6. Since objections have been raised against no. 3 of the individual
resolutions found on p. 21 (above, p. 100) of last year's Synodical Report,
the resolution stated there is hereby repealed, and to those who may
already have paid such money into the seminary fund, it shall be
returned.

No. 4 of those resolutions is amended as follows:

"The Synod resolves that preachers of its association are not
permitted to let those still in preparation for the holy preaching
office preach, until their sermon has been submitted to the
pastors concerned for review and found by them to be orthodox."

For the rest, the Synod held no different opinion last year either;
only the resolution had not been expressed clearly enough.

7. The question raised in the letter of Pastor Hoyer, dated Long Green,
September 23 of this year — whether it would not be advisable to equip
the students of the seminary in St. Louis with some medical, particularly
homeopathic and surgical, knowledge — was referred to the College's
board for consideration.

The installation of Pastor Hoyer into the congregation at Philadelphia
which he has accepted shall be carried out by Pastor Brohm.

8. The members belonging to the Buffalo Conference, with the exception
of Pastor Röbbelen, were permitted to join the New York
Conference.

9. Pastor Bünger has been commissioned to publish an essay in the
"Lutheraner" on the young men's society existing in St. Louis, concerning
which a letter had reached the Synod, in order thereby to give the
impulse for establishing similar wholesome societies in other congregations.
