Die vorſtehende Statiſtik der ev.⸗luth. Synodalconferenz von Nord⸗Amerika iſt allerdings zum Theil lückenhaft. Die Zeit der Zuſammen⸗
ſtellung derſelben war allzu kurz bemeſſen, um alles nöthige Material ſammeln zu können, doch wäre dies trotzdem wohl noch möglich geweſen,
wenn die Brüder im Amt, ſonderlich die in den Schweſterſynoden, der Sache ein wenig mehr Intereſſe entgegengebracht und ihre Berichte ein⸗
geſandt hätten. Dies iſt aber, wie mehrfach angedeutet, von den allermeiſten nicht geſchehen, und gerade diejenigen Paſtoren, welche die größten,
volkreichſten Gemeinden bedienen, haben keinerlei Angaben gemacht.

Ich halte es für nöthig, dies zu bemerken, um damit darauf hinzuweiſen, daß keine einzige Rubrik leer geblieben wäre, im übrigen aber faſt
alle Zahlen mehr als doppelt ſo groß ſein würden, wenn alle berichtet hätten. Hoffentlich geſchieht dies für das Erſcheinen der nächſten Statiſtik
im Jahre 1892, damit dann doch einmal ein voller Ueberblick über die numeriſche Stärke und die ganze Wirkſamkeit der rechtgläubigen Kirche
dieſes Landes gewonnen wird.

* Much of this probably belongs under the building fund and the educational institutions fund. It is for the most part receipted under "Schuldentilgung" [debt reduction].

The statistics above for the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] of North America are admittedly incomplete in part. The time allowed for compiling them was too short to collect all the necessary material, but even so this would probably have been possible if the brethren in office, especially those in the sister synods, had shown the matter a little more interest and had sent in their reports. But this, as has been pointed out repeatedly, has not been done by the great majority, and precisely those pastors who serve the largest, most populous congregations have made no returns at all.

I consider it necessary to remark on this in order thereby to indicate that no single column would have remained empty, and that otherwise almost all the figures would be more than twice as large if everyone had reported. It is to be hoped that this will happen for the publication of the next statistics in the year 1892, so that a full survey of the numerical strength and the whole activity of the orthodox church of this country may at last be gained.
