Lehre und Wehre.
Jahrgang IX. Juni 1863. No. 6.
Theologische Axiome.
(Fortsetzung.)
XXI. Von der Kirche und damit zusammenhängenden Lehren.
(Schluß.)

Volume IX. June 1863. No. 6.
Theological Axioms.
(Continued.)
XXI. Concerning the Church and the Doctrines Connected With It.
(Conclusion.)
(Ambrosius.)
They do not have the inheritance of Peter who do not have the faith of Peter.
(Baier.)
After the one or another company of the called has become defiled with heresy, or has been torn away from the rest by a schism, the rest no longer constitute that one catholic Church, outside of which there would be no truly believing and holy people and no salvation at all — since outside it the Word of God and Baptism can be, and are, given, through which faith and salvation are imparted to men.
60. The Christian Church is not called a heap full of bishops' and cardinals' hats; and it may indeed be called a council, or a council may be made out of them, but not a Christian Church. For this same Church cannot be gathered together into one heap, but is scattered throughout the whole world. (Luther.)
(Quenstedt.)
One must distinguish a twofold access to the Church: the former is the local and manifest access to a particular church through the outward confession of faith; the latter is the spiritual and hidden access to the universal Church through the inward assent of the heart; even though
