334 Ein Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Ausgaben von Luthers Werken.

Wohlgefallens in unserm Werke.

Amen.

pleasure in our work. And just as richly and visibly has the Lord also blessed us in all other respects: He has caused my public appearances and appeals for help on behalf of your Synod to find willing ears and hearts everywhere; He has provided ways for us to publish a small mission newsletter in the interest of our work and to distribute it in Germany in several thousand copies; He has, finally, made our institution here into a proper recruiting-place and gathering-point for workers for the service of the church in North America. Besides the nine students already present in my house, a still greater number of others have applied, and beyond these, altogether, a pastor, four schoolteachers, and several older young men, already more or less trained, have declared themselves ready to enter church service for North America. If the Lord provides the means — and how should we, of little faith, hesitate and doubt over this? — we could send across to you next spring a number of 8-12 persons, not counting the students who are first to complete their preparatory course at our institution here.

So I may indeed close my letter to you, beloved brethren, with a truly joyful and confident: "Hitherto the Lord has helped." May He, the rich and gracious God and Lord, continue also henceforth to bless all your and our doing and work, to the honor of His name and the building up of His holy church. May He let your Synod grow and multiply it into many thousands; may He make it a blessing and a stronghold and rock of the true faith and pure doctrine for North America, and give it grace and victory against all its adversaries. May the Lord let also my slight labor for His holy church and your Synod be well-pleasing to Him, and bless in it what is done purely and simply only to His honor and in the service of the truth. But in the pure and certain truth of His Word may He preserve us all together until our end, so that one day we may joyfully see one another before His face, when no ocean any longer separates and divides us.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
