Neue Ausgabe. gr. 8. 526 Seiten. In elegantem Einbande mit
allegorischer Deckelverzierung in Golddruck. Preis 1 Thlr.

In der Stiller'schen Hofbuchhandlung (Didier Otto) in Schwerin erschien soeben:

Krautgarten für die kranken Seelen. Von M. Mich. Bock. Herausg. von
Dr. Th. Kliefoth, Oberkirchenrath. 83 Seiten in 24. Format.
Cart. 5 Sgr.

Es ist dies das alte liebliche Trostbüchlein „Würzgärtlein für die kranken Seelen.“ Der Verfasser war vor 300 Jahren Prediger zu Hagenau
im Elsaß. Im Jahre 1562 wurde es ins Plattdeutsche übersetzt, woraus es
der gegenwärtige Herausgeber in unser heutiges Hochdeutsch zurück übersetzt hat.

In Harburg bei Danckwerts ist vor kurzem folgender neue Abdruck alter
Katechismen erschienen:

Katechetische Denkmale der ev.-luth. Kirche, enthaltend 1. Totelbach, das
güldene Kleinod (6 Ngr.); 2. Glassius, kurzer Begriff der christlichen Lehre (3 Ngr.); 3. Mecklenburger Katechismus (6 Ngr.);
4. das Nürnberger Kinderlehrbüchlein (6 Ngr.); 5. Just. Gesenius,
Katechismusfragen (5 Ngr.); 6. Walthers Katechismus (5 Ngr.).
Preis des Ganzen 26 Ngr. Herausg. von F. W. Bodemann, Pastor.

Münkel bemerkt hierüber: Im Ganzen sind sie unverändert abgedruckt,
bis auf einige veraltete und unverständliche Wörter, und die Schriftstellen,
welche nur bezeichnet sind.

Bei Osgood & Pearce in Columbus, Ohio, ist erschienen:

G. Graul, D. D., the Distinctive Doctrines of the different Christian
Confessions in the light of the Word of God. Translated from the
fifth German Edition by Rev. D. M. Martens A. M. 1862.
(S. VI. 133.) 25 Cents.

216 Literary Notices.

New edition. Large 8vo. 526 pages. In an elegant binding with
allegorical cover ornamentation in gold print. Price 1 Thaler.

Published by the Stiller Court Bookshop (Didier Otto) in Schwerin, just
appeared:

Herb Garden for the Sick Soul. By M. Mich. Bock. Edited by
Dr. Th. Kliefoth, Superior Consistorial Councillor. 83 pages, 24mo
format. Bound, 5 Sgr.

This is the old, dear little book of comfort, "Little Spice-Garden for the
Sick Soul." Its author was, three hundred years ago, a preacher at Hagenau
in Alsace. In the year 1562 it was translated into Low German, and from that version
the present editor has translated it back into our present-day High German.

At Danckwert's in Harburg there has recently appeared the following new reprint of old
catechisms:

Catechetical Monuments of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church, containing 1. Totelbach, The
Golden Jewel (6 Ngr.); 2. Glassius, Short Summary of Christian
Doctrine (3 Ngr.); 3. The Mecklenburg Catechism (6 Ngr.);
4. The Nuremberg Little Children's Catechism (6 Ngr.); 5. Just. Gesenius,
Catechism Questions (5 Ngr.); 6. Walther's Catechism (5 Ngr.).
Price of the whole set, 26 Ngr. Edited by F. W. Bodemann, Pastor.

Münkel remarks on this: On the whole they are reprinted unchanged,
except for a few obsolete and unintelligible words, and the Scripture references,
which are only indicated.

Published by Osgood & Pearce in Columbus, Ohio, there has appeared:

G. Graul, D.D., The Distinctive Doctrines of the different Christian
Confessions in the light of the Word of God. Translated from the
fifth German edition by Rev. D. M. Martens, A.M. 1862.
(pp. VI, 133.) 25 cents.

That Graul's Distinctive Doctrines has already reached its 5th edition
in Germany is certainly one sign of how excellent this little book is,
which in concise brevity illuminates and refutes, from the standpoint of the purely biblical
teaching of the Lutheran Church, the principal erroneous points of doctrine of the
falsely-believing communions. It is therefore surely a happy thought
to give this little book access, by means of a translation into English, here in the land of
the sects, to the Lutherans of the English tongue, who for the most part are so greatly in need of
a reliable guide through the labyrinth of false doctrinal opinions.
The translation announced above, which lies before us for review, is,
so far as the German idiom was correctly grasped — which admittedly is not the case throughout —
correct, though somewhat stiff. Unfortunately several printing errors have crept in,
especially in the citation of Bible passages, where here and there the chapter reference
is lacking. Otherwise the production is good. To shorten it, the translation omits
the splendid confession of faith of Luther's from the year 1529
that accompanies the original, and likewise an appendix containing a valuable treatise
on the "high significance of pure doctrine for the Christian life," with regard
