38 Proceedings of the twenty-eighth convention

12 colored), 2 colored students who keep school, 3 colored women teachers in the colleges, 1 colored matron and 35 colored women teachers. The total number of workers: 89 (18 white, 71 colored). In addition 2 helpers (Prof. Th. Engelder and Rev. Ad. H. Poppe).

11. The Needs of the Negro Mission. This year the mission needs $125,000 for current expenses and presumably the same sum in the year 1923. We hope to obtain $150,000 through the jubilee collection. This sum is required in order to be able to erect all the necessary new buildings.

May our highly praised Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, however, fill the hearts of our dear mission workers with joy, love and perseverance in this toilsome but glorious and blessed mission work! And may he make all of us ever more fervent in prayer and more cheerful in giving for this blessed work, which spreads ever farther, and let us see already here in time and there in eternity that what his holy mouth spoke through the royal singer David is true: "Ethiopia shall stretch out her hands unto God"! Ps. 68:32.
