werden kann“;

2.) „daß Vorarbeiten für ein engliſches Leſebuch gemacht worden ſind“;

It was resolved that the Constitution of the Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] with the supplementary provisions be printed in pamphlet form, in 2000 copies, together with the minutes.

Resolved, that the individual synods of the Synodical Conference be listed and called in alphabetical order.

Publication of English School Books.

Among the business matters on the agenda, the publication of English school books was taken up first. The committee for English church and school books appointed last year made the following report:

1.) "that an English primer (Fibel) can be submitted in manuscript";

2.) "that preparatory work for an English reader has been done";

3.) "that Professor A. Selle has for years been working on an English reader and offers the same to the Honorable Synodical Conference as property on the condition that no such alterations be made in it as would make it essentially a different one. This condition would also apply to any future editions";

4.) "Since besides English readers a Bible history seems most urgently necessary, the committee recommends that the Honorable Synodical Conference arrange for the preparation of an English Bible history."

In connection with this report, an instruction given to the delegates of the Missouri Synod for this year's convention of the Synodical Conference concerning the English school books was read, and the proposals contained in it were raised by the Synodical Conference to resolutions, which follow below. It was remarked, with regard to the publication of English school books, that the Missouri Synod urges that the English reader that follows the primer be published by the fixed date, because the customary American readers can no longer be tolerated in our parish schools on account of the false doctrine contained in them. If nothing were done on the part of the Synodical Conference, the Missouri Synod would see itself compelled to take up the publication of the English readers itself, and this should then not be regarded as separatist action.

The English primer (Fibel) submitted in manuscript was carefully examined by a committee, which reported that the content of this book is entirely and fully in accord with God's Word and its language is good and exemplary English, and that this book, quite apart from its purpose in instruction, deserves the widest circulation, on account of its valuable formative content, also outside our parish schools, in families and in so-called Sunday schools.
