mehr abgewendet werden und das päbstliche Antichristenthum sich der Christenheit in seiner Nacktheit mit allen seinen Greueln und Scheueln darstellen;

Beweis' Dein Macht, HErr JEsu Christ,
Der Du ein Herr all'r Herren bist,
Beschirm Dein' arme Christenheit,
Daß sie Dich lob' in Ewigkeit.

The Latest Papist Council, etc. 29

how the much-vaunted unity of faith within the Roman Church is constituted, it is certainly the history of the doctrine of the immaculate conception of St. Mary. This history alone makes it as clear as day that Rome is Babel.

2. Furthermore, if there is any history of doctrine that makes ridiculous the claim that the pope is infallible and is necessary so that the Church may have a tribunal to decide all controversies that arise, it is undoubtedly this history of doctrine. Not only did the popes, for political reasons, refrain for centuries from making a pronouncement on the matter, or declare both truth and error unobjectionable; but when at last they were compelled to decide something, they also contradicted themselves in the most lamentable manner.

3. Tradition, which in the Roman Church is supposedly to be regarded and accepted with the same reverence as Holy Scripture inspired by the Holy Spirit, is, as is evident from the history above, nothing but an empty name devised to make it possible to canonize any new error whatsoever.

4. Just as the true Church, whenever an error seeks to raise its head within her, always expels it as a living, healthy body expels a splinter, so, by contrast, it belongs to the laws of the Roman Church’s nature that, wherever a truth still stirs within her, she gradually expels each one, so that at the Last Day she may finally be a corpse decayed through and through.

5. The idolatry practiced with Mary for centuries in the Roman Church was bound at last to lead that church to favor the doctrine that Mary is a sinless being; when this proposition is finally proclaimed as decided and affirmed by the Church, it will have incalculably great and terrible consequences for the Roman Church. The idolatrous worship of Mary, already so far advanced, will push into the background, displace, and swallow up all worship of God and Christ in that church; the poor people held captive in the bonds of the papacy will be turned ever further away from Christ, and papal Antichristianism will display itself to Christendom in all its nakedness, with all its abominations and horrors; yet nevertheless, according to the prophecies of Scripture, through the powers of the underworld that serve it, it will draw many who are not of God into its magic circle.

Preserve us, Lord, in Your Word,
And curb the murderous rage of pope and Turk,
Who seek to cast Jesus Christ, Your Son,
Down from Your throne.
Show Your might, Lord Jesus Christ,
You who are Lord of all lords;
Protect Your poor Christendom,
That it may praise You eternally.
