A. Folgendes:

...allows [it]. And is it not worth a death, that no other should first have to mediate further, as in the old covenant, in order to have access to God and to draw near to him as a priest?

But at the memory of this royal glory of the Bride of the Lamb, the blaring trumpet-blast dies away in a note of lament — the echo of "Fear not; ye seek Jesus the crucified; he is not here, he is risen," which rang out of heaven on Easter morning. For the "thousand years" that close the verse were surely not meant to be the narrow bounds of so glorious a time. What else did it impute to the children of men but the lie with which Satan, in the papacy, deceived the world — that Christ had not made his members kings and priests, but had subjected them to a self-chosen priesthood of Antichrist? Yet it was precisely because such waves beat against the dam, while God still restrained their fury with his almighty hand, that it was so much the higher a price of the grace and faithfulness of the Lord, that he reigned with Christ throughout these thousand years who had become a partaker of his resurrection.

"With Christ" — that is the key to the lament that follows. For precisely because men afterward clung more faithfully to the mass-priest than to him, there could be no victory left to win.

(Conclusion follows.)

Difference between the Lutheran and Reformed Church.

In the June number of the current volume of the Erlangen "Zeitschrift für Protestantismus und Kirche" there appears an article entitled: "Truth and Love, Considered from the Relation of the Three Churches, the Catholic, the Reformed, and the Lutheran"; in it we read, among other things, the following concerning the difference indicated in the title:

From what has already been said, we think, it may sufficiently appear how wrong are those who maintain that only a few insignificant dogmatic differences stand between the Reformed and the Lutheran Church. It would indeed be in a poor way with both of them, if they had nothing to show but dogmatic statements or formulas, a body without spirit. But to come to the dogmatic differences that are supposed to be so insignificant — the question is: which are they? In our view the difference between the two concerns two points: the incarnation of God and the Holy Spirit, that is, the second and third chief articles.

The fundamental doctrine of the Gospel — God is manifest in the flesh — has not, according to Reformed teaching, become truth, not even with
