154 Statistical Survey of the Norwegian Lutheran Church, etc.

calling to lead the congregation to Moab, and thereupon vanished so completely that all inquiries have remained fruitless. Meanwhile his followers too have arrived in Palestine and wait there, helpless and dismayed, for the return of the vanished one. — By their fruits shall ye know them. The fruit of chiliasm is that it plunges its deluded followers into bodily ruin as well.

Signs of the times. A new Catholic church has been built in Eisleben, Luther's birthplace, not far from the house in which he was born, from St. Peter's Church where he was baptized, and from St. Andrew's Church — or, as the people call it, the Luther Church — where the man of God, already ill, held his last sermon.
