88 Die deutschen Gemeinden Australiens.

vergraben all' unsere eigne gemachte Weisheit und Willkür!

Hill, Pastor Fritzsche seit 1842; Bethanien, Schönborn, Gnadenberg,
Neukirch und Peters-Hill, Pastor Meyer seit 1848; Blumberg und Black-

all our own self-made wisdom and self-will! And then may the Lord grant that, whether we stand or fall, whether we live or whether we die, with this banner in hand we shall nonetheless carry off the victory through the power of that Lord whose name is written on this banner, and in whose name alone we wish to conquer. May the Lord God be with you and with our whole dear church, and give us strength to hold ourselves as the church, whose name we bear, demands of all her true sons. Yes, may the Lord, for the sake of His promise, grant grace and His blessing to our willing! Amen." C.

The German Congregations of Australia.

The Reverend Pastor Matthias Göthe of Melbourne has had the kindness to send us the calendar he publishes, for this year. It bears the title: "Calendar of the Australian Christian Messenger for the Evangelical Germans in Australia." In it we find a directory of the German congregations of Australia. In sharing this church statistic, we are admittedly at present unable to pass a sure judgment on the churchly standing of this or that fellowship; we hope, however, soon to receive periodicals from Australia and, on the basis of these, to be able in due course to inform our readers on this point as well. We now let the directory follow:

A. South Australia.

I. Synod of South Australia: Lobethal and Torrens-Hill, Pastor Fritzsche since 1842; Bethanien, Schönborn, Gnadenberg, Neukirch, and Peters-Hill, Pastor Meyer since 1848; Blumberg and Black-Springs, Pastor Hensel since 1855; Hahndorf and Salem, Pastor Strempel since 1855; Hoffnungsthal and Rosenthal, Pastor Oster since 1855; Mount Gambier, served by Pastor Schürmann from Hochkirch; Adelaide and Windsor, Pastor Meischel since 1860.

NB. The congregations of Lobethal, Torrens-Hill, Bethanien, Schönborn, Gnadenberg, Peters-Hill, Blumberg, Hahndorf, Salem, Hoffnungsthal, Rosenthal, and Lyndoch-Valley have Christian day schools. — The synod meets every four years. President: Pastor Meyer.

II. Synodical Union of Lights'-Pass, etc.: Lights'-Pass and Ebenezer, Pastor Staudenmayer since 1857; Tanunda, Gnadenfrei, and Nain, Pastor Keppler since 1861; Hahndorf, vacant.

NB. The congregations of Lights'-Pass, Ebenezer, Nain, Gnadenfrei, and Stockwell have Christian day schools. — The synod meets annually.

Concerning the relation of this synodical union to that of Victoria, it was deliberated at the synod held on October 22, 1861, at Lights'-Pass. After Pastor Keppler had given a report on the history, confession, and spirit of the synodical union of Victoria, the following resolutions were agreed upon:
