QUESTION: "129. Why was it necessary for our Savior to be true
man?

It was necessary for our Savior to be true man—
A. That He might take our place under the Law:"

315. Gal. 4:4.5

When the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made
of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the
law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. KJV

When the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman,
born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that
we might receive adoption as sons. RSV

When the fulness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of
a woman, born under the Law, in order that He might redeem those who
were under the Law, that we might receive the adoptions as sons. NASV

When the appointed time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman,
born a subject of the Law, to redeem the subjects of the Law and to
enable us to be adopted as sons. JB

When the term was completed. God sent his own Son, born of a woman,
born under the law, to purchase freedom for the subjects of the law, in
order that we might attain the status of sons. NEB 1

When the right time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born
under the Law, to free those under the Law and make us His sons. Beck
When the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman,

born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the
full rights of sons. NIV

When the right time came, the time God decided on, He sent His
Son, born of a woman, born as a Jew, To buy freedom for us who were
slaves to the law so that He could adopt us as His very own sons. LB 2

When the right time finally came, God sent his own Son. He came
as the son of a human mother, and lived under the Jewish Law, to redeem
those who were under the Law, so that we might become God’s Sons.
TEV

When the proper time came God sent his Son, born of a human
mother and born under the jurisdiction of the Law, that he might redeem
those who were under the authority of the Law and lead us into becom-
ing, by adoption, true sons of God. PH

“B. That He might be able to suffer and die in our stead.”

316. Heb. 2:14

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he

also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might
destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. KJV

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself
likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy
him who has the power of death, that is, the devil. RSV

Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself like-
wise also partook of the same, that through death He might render
powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil. NASV

Since all the children share the same blood and flesh, he too shared
equally in it, so that by his death he could take away all the power of the
devil, who had power over death. JB 1

The children of a family share the same flesh and blood: and so he
too shared ours, so that through death he might break the power of him
who had death at his command, that is, the devil. NEB 2

Now since all these children have flesh and blood, He in the same
way took on flesh and blood in order to die and so take away all the
powers of him who had the power of death, that is, the devil. Beck

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their
humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power
of death—that is, the devil. NIV

Since we. God's children, are human beings— made of flesh and
blood —he became flesh and blood too by being born in human form:
for only as a human being could he die and in dying break the power
of the devil who had the power of death. LB 2

Since the children, as he calls them. are people of flesh and blood,
Jesus himself became like them and shared their human fiature. He did
so that through his death he might destroy the Devil, who has the power
over death. TEV 2

Since, then, “the children,” have acommon physical nature as human
beings, he also became a human being, so that by going through death
as a man he might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the
devil. PH

QUESTION: “130, Why was it necessary for our Savior to be true
God?

It was necessary for our Savior to be true God—

A. That His fulfilling of the Law might be sufficient for all men.”
317. Ps. 49:7. 8

None of them can by any means redeem his brother nor give to God
a ransom for him. (For the redemption of their soul is precious.) KJV

Truly no man can ransom himself, or give to God the price of his
life, for the ransom of his life is costly. RSV

No man can by any means redeem his brother, Or give to God a
ransom for him —For the redemption of his soul is costly. NASV

But man could never redeem himself or pay his ransom to God: it
costs so much to redeem his life, it is beyond him. JB

Alas! no man can ever ransom himself nor pay God the price of that
release: his ransom would cost too much. NEB

Yet not one of them, though rich as kings, can ransom his own
brother from the penalty of sin! For God's forgiveness does not come
that way. For a soul is far too precious to be ransomed by mere earthly
wealth. LB

A man can never redeem himself, he cannot pay God the price for
his life, because the payment for a man’s life is too great. TEV

318. Rom. 5:19
{NoTE: The Greek test says “the many” to complete contrast with
“The One.”’]
By the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. KJV 1
By one man’s obedience many will be made righteous. RSV 1

Through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.
NASV

By one man’s obedience many will be made righteous. JB 1

Through the obedience of the one man the many will be made
righteous. NEB

So when One obeyed, all will be made righteous. Beck 1

Through the obedience of the one man the many will be made
righteous. NIV

Christ caused many to be made acceptable to God because he obeyed.
LB 1

By the generosity of God, the free giving of the grace of the one man
Jesus Christ, that the love of God overflowed for the benefit of all men.
PH 9

In the same way many will be put right with God as the result of the
obedience of the one man. TEV 1

“B. That His life and death might be a sufficient ransom for our
redemption.”

319. Mark 10:45

The Son of man came, not to be ministered unto, but to minister.
