To Ask Mission Board to Resign
}HWEREAS. There have been several official protests from our
sister churches in other countries regarding the removal of
several executives of the mission staff; and
WHEREAS. There has been an apparent inability on the part
of the Board for Missions and the mission staff to work together:
and
WHEREAS. The actions of the synodical Board for Missions
have caused a schism to take place in our foreign mission
field; and
WHEREAS. The Mission Affirmations reaffirmed by the Synod
in convention, in New Orleans in 1973, have been circumvented
and ignored; therefore be it
Resolved. That since the synodical Board for Missions cannot
help to perpetuate the Word among the different fields of
endeavor, that the members of the board be asked to resign
and be replaced by the actions of this synodical convention; and
be it further
Resolved. That the board be instructed to return to the use
of the Mission Affirmations.

To Admonish Board for Missions
WHEREAS, The Mission Affirmations provide a widely ac-
cepted set of guidelines for mission work within our Synod;
therefore be it
Resolved. That the Synod in convention admonish the Board
for Missions to conform its policies to these Affirmations and that
the convention reverse those actions of the board in the last
biennium which have issued from opposition to the Mission
Affirmations.

To Request Change in Board for
Missions Policies
WHEREAS, The Synod’s Board for Missions has engaged in
activities and policy changes that represent a departure from
the spirit of the Mission Affirmations adopted at the Detroit
convention in 1965 and subsequently reaffirmed; and
WHEREAS, These changes have led to unsubstantiated dis-
missals and to large-scale protest resignations of key members
of the mission staff: and
WHEREAS. Front-line mission workers have protested the
legalistic and separatistic direction of the Board for Missions,
which precipitated a split in the Hong Kong mission and has
led to disruption in the total mission work of the church; and
WHEREAS. The autonomy of sister mission churches has
been seriously disregarded through such actions: therefore be it
Resolved. That the Board for Missions repudiate the policies
that have led to the disruption in missions and that it reinstate
workers unjustly dismissed: and be it further
Resolved. That the board return to an evangelical, Christ-
centered theology of missions and to a spirit of mutual trust and
cooperation between the Synod and sister mission churches
abroad.
