Beilage A.
Proben meiner biblischen Register.

Praefatio in Vet. Testamentum (v. J. 1529 1. Klasse) ebdas. Anhang.

Praefatio in Nov. Testamentum W. A. 14, Anhang p. 659.

Summarium der ganzen heil. Schrift (v. J. 1532, 4. Classe) W. A. 5, 692.*) „Damit gehet die ganze heil.

J. 1522, I. Cl.) W. 11, 214.

Proposal and Specimen for the Preparation of a Bible Commentary, etc. 357

synod be held, like the Wittenberg one, for the purpose of Bible revision, then at last, under God's blessing, an excellent Bible commentary would come into being.

Appendix A.
Samples of my Biblical Registers.

1. Samples from the register on the exposition of the Bible in general.

Prefaces on the Old and New Testament, as well as on the individual books, Walch's edition, 14, 1-151.

Praefatio in Vet. Testamentum (from the year 1529, 1st class), ibid., Appendix.

Praefatio in Nov. Testamentum, W. A. 14, Appendix, p. 659.

Summary of the whole of Holy Scripture (from the year 1532, 4th class), W. A. 5, 692.*) "The whole of Holy Scripture is concerned with this, that it hold before us the goodness and grace of God, who through his beloved Son brings the wretched human nature, which has fallen into sin and damnation, back again to righteousness and life.... Whoever pays heed to this summary and content of Holy Scripture will read and study Holy Scripture with profit."

Summary of the Old and New Testament. (From the year 1543, 1st class.) W. 20, 2587. "We Christians have both books of Holy Scripture, the old and holy one, and in addition the new and most holy one. The old one promises the Messiah and says: he shall surely come and be given. The new one proclaims and says: he has surely come and been given.... Thus the two cherubim look with their faces toward one another upon the mercy seat, that is, the Old and New Testament together say that Jesus Christ, Mary's son, is the Savior of the world and the true mercy seat before God, against our sin, death, the devil, and hell."

Old and New Testament, the relation of the two (from the year 1522, class I). W. 11, 214. "The New Testament is nothing other than a revelation of the Old. Just as if someone had a sealed letter and afterward broke it open: so the Old Testament is a testamentary letter of Christ, which he, after his death, has opened and had read and proclaimed everywhere through the Gospel, as is signified at Revelation 5:5 by the Lamb of God, who alone opened the book with the seven seals, which otherwise no one could open, neither in heaven, nor on earth, nor under the earth."

Old and New Testament, the difference between the two. (From the year 1522, 2nd class.) "Although both are, as to the letter, written on paper, yet the Gospel, or the New Testament, ought properly not to be written, but rather grasped in the living voice, which is to resound and be heard everywhere in the world; that it has also been written is something that has come about out of abundance. But the Old Testament is set down only in writing—
