The Reformed Church Gazette. With reference to the remark in the April number,
p. 125, the editor of that journal gives the following declaration: "A longer
communication in the Church Gazette of March 15 contains several citations from
an English author which we must disapprove in the most decided manner. Neither
would they have found admission into our paper had we not been prevented from
examining the piece beforehand, before it went into the compositor's hands. The
remarks of a colleague upon it are just, and we thank him for having directed
our attention to this matter." — This declaration does the editor of the
Reformed Church Gazette nothing but honor, and it were to be wished that certain
other editors who have received similar friendly reminders would take him for
their model; then much harm and much discord would be prevented.

II. Abroad.

Chiliasm. Last year there appeared at Gütersloh the work of a Lippe preacher
bearing the title: "The thousand-year kingdom belongs not to the past but to the
future." The author means to be an opponent of "spiritualism" and a zealous
representative of "biblical realism." To the objection that Revelation says each
gate of the new Jerusalem will be made of a single pearl, and whether he really
means to take this too in the proper sense, the chiliastic author answers: "If
God will transfigure the earthly pearl and make a heavenly pearl of it, should
he not be able — since with him nothing is impossible — to let it grow to such a
size that a single pearl suffices to make a gate of the new
