Indem Wir somit diesen alten Schatz unserer Kirche wieder zugänglich
machen, vermahnen Wir landesväterlich alle Unsere getreuen Unterthanen

A. also: „Der Grund, warum wir die Sammlung

—the musical notation contained in these older editions has been omitted, because, upon obtaining the judgment of connoisseurs of the art, that old system of notation is still intelligible only to the historical specialist, while a transposition of it into the notation of the newer system could not have been carried out without alterations to the old notation.

In thus making this old treasure of our Church accessible once more, We admonish, in fatherly care for Our land, all Our faithful subjects, of whatsoever estate they may be, to hold fast with Us to the confession of hope without wavering; and to all church servants, and to whomever else it may concern, We recall that We wish this Church Order to be held to now as before, insofar as individual provisions of it have not been altered by later legislation through the ordinary channels.

Given through Our Supreme Consistory, Schwerin, on the day before Pentecost, 1855.

Austria. The following is found in the "Protestant Church Gazette for Evangelical Germany": "From the data called for by the Ministry of Cultus on occasion of the forthcoming regulations for non-Catholics, the following emerges regarding the circumstances of non-Catholics in Austria generally: The total number of Protestants amounts to 3,450,000 souls, of which 2,216,558 fall to Hungary alone. For every 10,000 inhabitants of the monarchy there are 920 Protestants, namely 577 of the Helvetic and 343 of the Augsburg Confession. Of the Greek religion there are 3,162,000; Unitarians number over 50,000. Altogether the non-Catholics make up about one-sixth of the population."

"The Evangelical Lutheran" of Springfield, Ohio, has recently ceased publication and has returned again to its origin; that is to say, its subscriber list has been transferred to the "Lutheran Observer," which, better attending to its own interests, caters still better to the spirit of the age in respect of platformism.

"The Gathering of the People of God." In Germany a society "for the Gathering of the People of God in Jerusalem" was formed last year. Unfortunately, the "Weltbote" of Allentown, Pa., lends itself to presenting this matter to the Christian public here in such a way that it gives the appearance of sympathizing with it. This past year a minister from the State of Indiana sent, in the name of a number of Christian friends there, a letter to the board of that society, in which he asks for further information about the undertaking. The reply that followed is communicated by the "Weltbote." It states there, among other things, as follows: "The reason why we now hold the gathering of the people of God to be necessary is the deep degeneracy, the corruption, of our Christian peoples, which has progressed to such a perversion of mind that it can no longer be overcome by the means hitherto employed... We sought a means of rescue against this corruption and found it in the prophecy, which
