Ernst Gerh. Wilh. Keyl,
Pastor der ev.-luth. St. Pauls-Gemeinde in Baltimore.

philosophical mode of expression that makes it hard to understand, but rather the numerous splendid images which the author draws from his overflowing depth of feeling, and in which he utters his powerful and luminous thoughts as in lovely riddles — images which, by their charming form, of themselves awaken the reader's mind to reflection, and which richly reward the effort applied by anyone who does not shrink from a little pondering. —

for the following highly important work:

Exposition of the Catechism from Dr. Luther's Writings and the Symbolical Books,

compiled by

Ernst Gerh. Wilh. Keyl,
Pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's congregation in Baltimore.

Second Chief Part.

In the year 1853 there appeared, from the Beck publishing house in Nördlingen, the first part of this exposition of the Catechism, comprising the First Chief Part. Not only in Germany, where it appeared, but also in America, this book has met with a most favorable reception and found a substantial sale.

In exactly the same manner as the First Chief Part, the Second Chief Part, comprising the three articles of the Christian faith, has now likewise been prepared by Pastor Keyl, and the undersigned hopes to render a service to Lutheran pastors, schoolteachers, heads of households, and all Lutheran Christians in general by undertaking the publication of this book.

It will be printed in the same format and with the same type as the First Part, and, durably bound in boards, will cost 1 dollar. Printing will begin at once as soon as 500 reliable subscribers are on hand.

Collectors of subscribers receive one free copy for every ten.

All Lutheran pastors and schoolteachers, or whoever else takes a living interest in the appearance of this work, are most respectfully and earnestly requested to contribute with all their strength, that it may attain as wide a circulation as possible in the Lutheran church.
