132 Was Dr. Heinrich Kurtz in Dorpat vom Glauben lehrt.

Ein Eid ist keine Verbindlichkeit zum Unrecht.

31. In male promissis rescinde fidem.

Hast du etwas Böses versprochen, so mußt du dein Wort brechen.

36. Omne promissum cadit in debitum.

malitiae fontem.

Was Dr. Heinrich Kurtz in Dorpat vom Glauben lehrt.

132 What Dr. Heinrich Kurtz of Dorpat Teaches Concerning Faith.

An oath is no obligation to do wrong.

31. In male promissis rescinde fidem.

Have you promised something evil, then you must break your word.

32. "Quod male juratur, pejus servatur."

What is sworn with sin is kept with greater sin.

33. "Amandus est generator, sed praeponendus est creator."

The begetter is to be loved, but the Creator is to be preferred.

34. "Si non pavisti, occidisti."

If you have not fed him, you have killed him.

35. "Nullam animam Deus recipit, quae ipso nolente separatur a
corpore."

God receives no soul that separates from its body against his will.

36. Omne promissum cadit in debitum.

Everything, even what was freely promised, becomes a debt.

37. Praeceptum ultimum de concupiscentia per superiora omnia
ducendum.

The last commandment, concerning lust, is to be applied to all the
earlier ones.

38. Lex obligat ad oboedientiam, vel ad poenam.

The law binds to obedience, or to punishment.

39. Lex est speculum, repraesentans ἐν τοῖς ἄνω Numinis coelitumque
malitiae fontem.

The law is a mirror, which in that which is above us represents the
holiness of God and of the angels; in that which is behind us, the virtues
of the first man; in that which is beneath us, the depths of Satan; in that
which is outside us, the wickedness of human actions; in that which is
within us, the inward source of wickedness.

What Dr. Heinrich Kurtz of Dorpat Teaches Concerning Faith.

It is without doubt the saddest sign of the confusion now prevailing in
matters of faith, that even in the Lutheran Church, in the church of the
pure Word and the unadulterated sacrament, learned and esteemed
theologians propagate false doctrine. How great must the power of
darkness be in an age when even those whom God has called and appointed
to be witnesses of his truth let themselves be beguiled by the lie. The
enemy well knows that the one hope of our race is destroyed, and that
nothing remains to us but despair and irretrievable ruin, if he succeeds in
extinguishing the pure doctrine of the Gospel, or in
