Die Symbole der Presbyterianer finden sich in folgender Schrift: The constitution of the Presbyterian church in the U. S. of America: containing the confession of faith, the catechisms and the directory for the worship of God: together with the plan of government and discipline. Philadelphia: Presbyterian Board of publication, William S. Martien, public King Agent. 1840.“ 3. New⸗York. Verlag der New⸗York Bibel⸗ und gemeinschaftliche Gebetbuch⸗Gesellschaft, Nr. 20 John⸗Straße. 1847.“ 4.

names of those who were present at the council. — The same Smets has, in the same manner as the Tridentinum, also published the Catechismus Romanus in German and Latin. The title is: "Der Römische Katechismus, published according to the decree of the Council of Trent. With the Latin text opposite, in a faithful German rendering, together with a historical introduction, by Dr. W. Smets. Bielefeld, at Velhagen and Klasing, 1846," in 2 small volumes in duodecimo. In Latin only the Catechismus Romanus appeared at Leipzig from Tauchnitz; in German only (in a translation by Rechenmacher) at Passau, 1839.

Among the symbolical writings of the Reformed churches we name only the following: 1. The Heidelberg Catechism has appeared here in America under the following title: "Catechismus, oder Kurzer Unterricht christlicher Lehre für die angehende Jugend, for use in the Electoral Palatinate and other Reformed places. Philadelphia, at G. W. Mentz and Son. 1838." As an appendix there is added: "Extracts from the German Reformed church order and discipline in the United States of North America." 2. The symbols of the Presbyterians are found in the following work: The constitution of the Presbyterian church in the U. S. of America: containing the confession of faith, the catechisms and the directory for the worship of God: together with the plan of government and discipline. Philadelphia: Presbyterian Board of publication, William S. Martien, public King Agent. 1840." 3. The 39 Articles of the Episcopalians are found in every "Book of common prayer"; the latter, with those so-called "Articles of Religion" in the modifications they received in America after the Revolution, has also appeared in German under the following title: "Das Buch des gemeinschaftlichen Gebets und der Verwaltung etc. according to the use of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America. New York. Published by the New York Bible and Common Prayer Book Society, No. 20 John Street. 1847." 4. As regards the Methodists, their doctrinal confession is contained in the following little book: "Die Lehre und Kirchenordnung der bischöflichen Methodistenkirche. Cincinnati, at J. F. Wright and L. Swormstedt, Main St., No. 311. 1841." 5. Finally, in many cases it may well be necessary for a Lutheran pastor to have at hand also the decrees of the strictly Calvinistic Synod of Dort; but the few printings in which these decrees have appeared separately have almost entirely disappeared. This symbol must therefore be sought in the larger collections of the Reformed confessions. Among these we name the following: "Die symbolischen Bücher der evangelisch-reformirten Kirche. For the first time completely translated from the Latin and accompanied with a historical introduction and notes. Neustadt 1830." This collection contains in part 1 the Helvetic Confessions, the Genevan Catechism, the Belgic Confession, the Decrees of Dort, the Confession of the Four Cities, and the
