zogene Ausſchließung des Herrn Pöſchke, ſo beſtätigt die Synode dieſelbe;
men und muthmaßlich großen Schaden angerichtet hätte.“

Exclusion and Withdrawal of Synod Members.
Since, as is evident from the annual report, the president had
excluded the former pastor F. W. Pöschke from the synod after the
close of last year's synodical sessions, the president now wished to know
whether the synod believed that, in doing so — as Mr. Pöschke accused
him — he had exceeded his authority as president and acted against the
synodical constitution, or whether it had not rather been his duty to act
in this way under the pressing circumstances.
After lengthy and many-sided discussion and examination of the
matter, the synod issued the following declaration:
"With regard to the exclusion of Mr. Pöschke carried out by the
president after the close of the synod, the synod confirms it; for
although no settling paragraph exists as yet in our synodical
constitution regarding such cases, the president's proceeding
nevertheless stands, in view of the facts at hand and of the accused's
impenitence made evident at the pastoral conference, in indirect
connection with the conclusion of § 5, Chap. II. Furthermore, had the
president continued to recognize Mr. Pöschke as a member of the synod
until the next synodical convention, he would have sinned against God's
Word and made himself a partaker of others' sins, had Mr. Pöschke, as a
synod member in the meantime, taken on the service of a congregation
and presumably caused great harm."
In order to make provision for similar cases in the future, the synod
adopted the following resolution as an addition to the constitution:
