PARISH SERVICES AND YOUTH 305

To Support Nondifferentiation of Salaries

Wuereas. It is a Christian as well as a democratic prin-
ciple that the laborer is worthy of his hire, entitled to a
salary commensurate with his responsibilities and duties: and

WHEREAS, State and federal laws support nondifferentia-
tion between salaries paid female and male workers for
identical jobs; and

Whereas, Neither Scripture nor logic justifies differentia-
tion in salaries on the basis of sex; therefore be it

Resolved. That the Synod support the establishment of
salary schedules which are commensurate with the profes-
sional background, responsibilities. and services which the
Lutheran teacher contributes, thereby providing adequate
incomes for Lutheran teachers: and be it further

Resolved, That the Synod support nondifferentiation of
salaries for female and male teachers: and be it finally

Resolved, That the Board for Parish Education be di-
rected to send this resolution to District education execu-
tives and all congregational boards for parish education of
The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod.

To Grant Equal Rights to Female Teachers

WHEREAS, Since, in the United States of America. we pro-
fess equality of opportunity and rights under the law, The
Lutheran Church -— Missouri Synod should, as an organiza-
tion operating within the law, recognize and grant equality
to both sexes; and

Wuereas, The course of study in our synodical schools
which leads to the granting of a bachelor’s degree and sub-
sequent employment as a teacher in our synodical school
system is basically the same for both men and women: and

Wuereas, It is only right, proper, and just that the bene-
fits which accrue to the male graduates who are called into
the teaching ministry should also be granted to the female
graduates who enter the teaching field in our synodical
schools: therefore be it

Resolved, That all female graduates of synodical schools
of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, who enter the
teaching field in our synodical schools, be granted all of the
rights. privileges. and benefits which are given to the male
graduates of the same synodical schools who are called into

the teaching ministry. Triniry LUTHERAN CHURCH

To Eliminate Discrimination

Wuereas. We recognize that we are all children of God
through faith: and

WuereaS, Paul in his Letter to the Galatians states that
we are all one in Christ with no regard to sex as male and
female; and

Wuereas, There are strong efforts and feelings in this
country for equal monetary reward for equal work, without
discrimination, racial or sexual: therefore be it

Resolved:

(1) To make no pay differentiation by race or sex for
equal work and equal responsibilities in any synodical posi-
tion, particularly among teachers in Lutheran parochial
schools,

(2) Correct any present pay differences, particularly be-
tween sexes, where responsibilities are identical, regardless
of the official title of that position.

To Develop Resource Materials
for Youth Leaders

WHEREAS, The majority of congregations must rely on
nonprofessional volunteers to serve as youth counselors; and

Wuereas, Many of these dedicated people are asking for
detailed program guides such as are furnished to our Sun-
day school and vacation Bible school staffs; and

Wuereas, Our Synod has been able to produce excellent
aids for these other volunteer people to work with, includ-
ing kits that furnish and make use of many media; there-
fore be it

Resolved. That the Central Illinois District memorialize
The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod meeting in con-
vention in New Orleans in 1973 to charge the Board of Youth
Ministry to develop such structured and correlated resource

materials.

To Utilize and Support Walther League

Wuereas. The Walther League of the LCMS is perform-
ing a valuable ministry in preserving the integrity of the
Gospel in relating the church’s youth to social order; and

Wuereas, Leadership of young Christians is urgently
needed in our church and society, especially in areas of social
conflict and disorder, and Walther League is helping to de-
velop these young leaders: and

Wuereas, The full work of Walther League is currently
being hampered by sects within the Synod who wish to see
its valuable contributions to the church curtailed; therefore
be it

Resolved. That our Synod leaders, pastors, and congre-
gations be encouraged to utilize the ministry of the Walther
League so that our young may develop their leadership in
issues relating to church and society; and be it further

Resolved. That the Synod give financial support to the
ministry of Walther League so that its efforts may be con-

tinued and expanded. Hype Park LUTHERAN CHURCH

To Commend Youth for Volunteer Efforts

Wrereas, Many Lutheran youth have the advantage of
free time to devote to volunteer efforts to help others; and

Wuereas, The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod and its
Commission on World Hunger have confirmed the existence
of the problem of hunger and encouraged parishes to take
appropriate action: and

Wuereas, The Walther League has provided an avenue
for thousands of Lutheran youth to become involved in this
ministry on a volunteer basis through its Hikes for the
Hungry program; therefore be it

Resolved, That The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod
