accordance with Matthew 18 and our synodical Handbook:
and be it further
Resolved, That as members together in the body of Christ
and members of Synod, we reaffirm our acceptance of the
position of Synod and that our preaching, teaching, and
reaching will be in accordance with it.

cates that some professors hold positions which are not in
agreement with our synodical position (see Report of the
Synodical President, pp. 26—31); and
WHEREAS, At least some students graduating from the
St. Louis seminary will be affected by the doubts which these
professors cast upon our doctrinal position; therefore be it
Resolved, That Synod in convention support the President
of Synod in his efforts to correct doctrinal aberrations: and
be it further

cannot honestly share our Synod's historical Position based
on the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions; and be it

To Commend President Preus
Wuereas, President Preus is enjoined by Article XI B to
supervise the doctrine and administration of the Synod: and
Wuereas, President Preus has performed this duty in
connection with the investigation of doctrine and teaching
at Concordia Seminary: and
Whereas, He has proceeded in an evangelical and broth-
erly way by appointing a Fact Finding Committee which did
not render judgment on hearsay but by personal investj-
gation: and
Wuereas, Some members of Synod now severely criticize
the President for having performed his duty; and
WHEREAS, This negative criticism causes President Preus
much grief and anguish of spirit: be it therefore
Resolved, That the Synod in convention assembled express
its confidence in President Preus and commend him for
having performed his duty and for the manner in which he
performed it. Grace LuTHeran Cyurcy

To Decline to Settle Controversy
at Convention
WHEREAs, Conventions, with their pressures of time and
atmosphere of excitement, provide a oor setting for doing
theology; and
Whereas, Doctrinal matters are to be decided only by the
Word of God (cf. Article VII C of the Synod’s Constitu-
tion); and
Wuereas, We have confidence in the living Lord that His
Spirit of truth will teach us all things necessary for the
unity He bestows (ef. John 14:25 ff.): and
Wuereas, Continuing dialog as we speak the truth in
love to one another can be an instrument of the Spirit in
keeping us together: therefore be it
Resolved, That the 50th regular convention of the Synod
decline to be the vehicle for settling hurriedly the contro-
versy involving our President and our St. Louis seminary;
and be it further
Resolved, That this convention decline any recommenda-~
tions to change the confessional basis of the Synod as spelled
out in Article II of the Constitution of the Synod; and be it
further
Resolved, That we urge our members to continue to search
the Scriptures, to edify one another with our differing gifts
of the Spirit, and to cling to one another since there is
“one Lord, one faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of
4:5, 6), waiting confidently together for the one Spirit to
unite us in a common understanding of the issues that now
trouble us and so renew and increase our joy, our faith,
our hope, and our love. Messiaw LuTHERAN CHuRcH

To Wait in Hope for the Lord’s Healing
Wuereas, Our Lord has promised that the Spirit will
guide us into all truth, but has not Promised to honor
deadlines devised by men; and
WHEREAS, The Constitution of The Lutheran Church —
Missouri Synod states that “all matters of doctrine and of
conscience shall be decided only by the word of God” (Ar-
