by the respective Board of Control; therefore be it

Resolved, That Synod place its college and seminary

To Protest Election Procedures
of Academic Presidents

; Wuereas, The method used to elect President John Tiet-
jen as seminary president, was neither fair nor representa-
tive of the will of the congregations in the Synod; and

Wuereas, The recent delays of the Fort Wayne Concor-
dia Senior College election for president have depicted the
extent to which a handful of faculty members can stall the
implementation of the will of the Synod; therefore be it

Resolved, That all presidents of synodical schools be
elected by the Synod assembled in convention; and be it
further

Resolved, That all presidents must come up for reelection

To Elect Seminary Presidents

at Synodical Conventions

Wuereas, The present provisions of the synodical Hand-
book give veto power to the faculty committee which acts
in the case of the election of a seminary president (Hand-
book 6.113 and 6,117): and

Wuereas, It is most desirable that particularly the presi-
dents of the Synod’s seminaries be elected in a democratic
fashion and be as responsible to the church as are its Presi-
dent and Vice-Presidents: and

WHEREAS, The present practice of extending permanent
calls to those men who serve as presidents of the Synod's
seminaries renders it well-nigh impossible to remove from
office such individuals who are not responsive to the objec-
tives and purposes of the Synod: therefore be it

Resolved, That the Synod inaugurate a method of calling
seminary presidents to that high office in a manner identical
to the nomination and election of the President and First
Vice-President of the Synod: and be it further

Resolved, That the term of a seminary president be 4
years (with the stipulation that he may be reelected); and
be it further

Resolved. That this method of election be placed into
practice at the Synod’s 1975 convention: and be it finally

Resolved, That the Synod shall call upon the incumbents
of the office of seminary president in 1975 to waive their
rights under the permanent tenure they now hold, in Chris-
tian love, and cooperate with the Synod in introducing the

new method. St. Pav’s Ev. LuTHERAN CHURCH

To Elect Presidents of Terminal Schools
in Conventions

WuerEAS, For the continuance of our Synod’s faithful
doctrinal stance an office of president in the Synod's termi-
nal schools is second only to that of the President of the
Synod itself in influence and importance: and

Wuereas, The present system accords virtual veto power
to the faculty screening committee in the choice of those
from whom Synod's electors are to select the new president
of a given terminal school: and

Whereas, Great difficulty has been experienced in the
recent past in the calling of a new president for several of
Synod's institutions of higher learning on account of the
present system: and

WuereEas, Our Synod is set up basically as a democratic
and representative body: and

Whereas, According to our information, other Lutheran
denominations in North America have already placed the
election of new college and seminary presidents into the
hands of their delegate conventions: therefore be it

Resolved, That the term of office for presidents of all
terminal schools of the Synod be 4 years and that the in-
cumbents be eligible for reelection: and be it further

Resolved. That the Synod change its Bylaws so that a
system be instituted for electing such new terminal school
presidents which would be substantially the same as that
now used for nominating and electing the President and
First Vice-President of the Synod: and be it finally

Resolved, That this change be put into effect in time for
the 1975 convention of the Synod to elect the presidents of
all its terminal schools for their first 4-year term under this

new system. St. Pavut LUTHERAN CHURCH

To Place All Professors of Synod
on Appointment

Whereas, The terms of office of all of Synod's executive
secretaries is 4 years and each appointment is subject to
mandatory review and decision on reappointment every
4 years (Handbook 2.12, pages 44—45); and

Wuereas, It is desirable in the maintenance of pure doc-
trine; therefore be it

Resolved, That all of Synod's professors be placed on an
appointment basis identical to that of the executive secre-
taries.

To Require Boards of Control to Use
“A Statement” in Evaluating
Doctrinal Positions of Faculty Members

WHEREAS, We the members of Redeemer Lutheran Church
of Baytown, Tex., are convinced that the Missouri Synod
is facing a crisis of faith and confession; and

Whereas, We are in full agreement with the Statement
of Scriptural and Confessional Principles as drawn up by the
President of our Synod, Dr. J. A. O. Preus; and

WHEREAS, We object to the use of the historical-critical
method of Bible interpretation which leads in practice to
the denial of miraculous events in the Scriptures; and

WHEREAS, We are in full accord with the conscientious
and faithful work of our present synodical President, espe-
