Sonntagabend. Die Sonntagsſchule (50 Schüler) wird von mehr Kin⸗
dern beſucht als die Wochenſchule (44 Schüler). Das iſt etwas Neues
in unſerer Miſſion.
32. Mission, Pomona bei Greensboro. (Gegründet 1926.
Miſſionar: Prof. Hans Näther.*) Etwa drei Meilen weſtlich von
Greensboro liegt ein Vorſtädtchen, das Pomona heißt. Hier hat Prof.

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1926. 15
Voting members: 23. Although the congregation numbers only 94 souls,
the Sunday services are nevertheless attended by a hundred persons.
The congregation contributes $40 monthly toward the pastor's salary. In
the school Teacher Anna Cobb and M. V. Lash taught over
70 children. A new school has become necessary.
29. Trinity, Elon. (Founded 1891. Missionary: W. H. Lash,
since October 1923.) This old station is located near the
little town of Elon College, where the whites have a large college.
Our chapel is very dilapidated. The few members have inquired
whether they could buy the building together with one and a half acres. The
Board has set the price low: $400. Repairs would cost
about $500. Souls: 17 (decrease: 1). Communicant members:
6. Voting members: 2.
30. Immanuel Lutheran College Mission at Greensboro.
(Missionary: Prof. Heinr. Nau,* since 1923.) During the school year
Sunday school is held every Sunday morning with the pupils who live in the college,
and in the evening a preaching service, in which the
theological students have ample opportunity to practise
preaching.
31. Luther Memorial, East Greensboro. (Founded 1924.
Missionary: Prof. Hans Näther.*) About a mile southeast of
our College lies a district called in popular speech Balky Bottoms.
Here our zealous professor has opened a mission station in a small
rented dwelling house. He preaches every
Sunday evening. The Sunday school (50 pupils) is attended by more
children than the weekday school (44 pupils). That is something new
in our mission. Only when the children also attend the Sunday
school have we won them for the church. Miss Addie
McTier is the teacher in the school. Mrs. Näther, who was formerly active in
the mission in Porto Rico, helps every morning in the
school, and without pay. Ten children of the school and Sunday
school were baptized by Prof. Näther. The station must be relocated
so that it may be more centrally situated.
32. Mission, Pomona near Greensboro. (Founded 1926.
Missionary: Prof. Hans Näther.*) About three miles west of
Greensboro lies a little suburb called Pomona. Here Prof.
Näther began the work on 4 April of this year. Church and
Sunday school are held in a log house that is placed at their free
disposal. The missionary has won two souls.
On the whole field in North Carolina we thus have 22 congregations
and preaching places with 1,212 souls and 763 communicant
members. On this old field only two congregations show
noteworthy progress: Mount Calvary near Kannapolis
and Grace in Greensboro.
South Carolina.
33. St. Luke's, Spartanburg. (Founded 1913. Missionary:
Gustavus S. Roberts, since 2 August 1925.) This is our
only Negro congregation among the large Negro population of the state of
South Carolina. Number of souls: 88 (decrease: 2). Confirmed
members: 56. The Sunday services (morning and evening)
are attended on average by 166 persons. The pastor currently has 7 persons
in confirmation instruction. The school has
154 pupils, the Sunday school 92. For an addition to the school
$1,500 was appropriated two years ago. Of this sum
