July 15, 1920.
We have audited the accounts and records of the Board for Colored

Komiteebericht.

überaus wichtige Werk genügend beſprochen werden kann;

2. daß in den Synodalorganen („Ev.⸗Luth. Gemeindeblatt“,
Northwestern Lutheran, „Lutheraner“, Lutheran Witness) in Zukunft
Fall war;

dieſelbe erweckt werde;

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1920. 39

[Printed in English.]

Committee Report.

The committee to which the report of the Commission for the Negro Mission was handed by the Rev. President for deliberation and evaluation, and which has met several times together with the representatives of the said Commission and some workers in the mission, herewith presents the following to the Rev. *Synodalkonferenz* [Synodical Conference]:

Regarding publicity we recommend most urgently:

1. that in future more time be devoted to the Negro Mission at the individual district synods and pastoral conferences, so that this exceedingly important work may be sufficiently discussed;

2. that in the synodical organs ("Ev. Luth. Gemeindeblatt," Northwestern Lutheran, "Lutheraner," Lutheran Witness) more articles on the Negro Mission appear in future than has been the case hitherto;

3. that lantern-slide lectures on the Negro Mission be given in more and more congregations, and that precisely thereby our Christian people be made acquainted with this mission and so more interest in it be awakened;

4. that the individual districts, in setting their budgets, take the Negro Mission into account also, where this has not yet been done.

We recommend that the action of the Commission with regard to raising the salaries of the missionaries be approved and the Commission be encouraged to raise the salaries for the time being by a further 25 percent and, where possible and necessary, to raise the salaries again later.

We recommend that the action of the Commission, in having raised in May the salary of the mission director and of the superintendent in Alabama, be approved and that these two workers in the mission also be granted a further salary increase of 25 percent.

Concerning the Publicity Secretary.

The work of the Negro Mission is spreading more and more; therefore more and more interest must be awakened in order to win the necessary means and workers for the work. Pastor N. J. Bakke has now stood in pioneer work for forty years, and this is gradually becoming hard for him. But he is still able to render good service to the mission, and is especially suited, in the congregations, at our
