der Ev.⸗Luth. Synodalkonferenz von Nordamerika. 1920. 37
To the Honorable Officers and Delegates of the Ev. Luth. Synodical
Conference of North America.
In session at Milwaukee, Wis., August 18 to 23, 1920.
CHRISTIAN AND FRATERNAL GREETINGS: —
In submitting this report, your Treasurer respectfully wishes to direct
attention to a considerable increase in cost of maintenance of the Negro Mis-
sion in the last year due, to a very large extent, to the necessary increase
in salaries, which in many cases are still inadequate.
The report is made according to the fiscal year, beginning July 1 and
ending June 30, both inclusive.

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1920. 37
This report could now have much more added to it if space and time permitted. From what has been said, however, it is probably already sufficiently clear how matters stand with our work of rescue among the poor Negroes. To God the LORD be praise, glory and thanks for all the blessing that he has laid upon our humble work! May he also in future acknowledge this work in grace, which in the eyes of men is so small and despised! May he graciously grant that we carry this work always on praying hearts and pursue it with ever greater earnestness and zeal, so that through his Spirit and his grace ever more Moors may stretch out their hands to their God and ours and Savior. Ps. 68:32.
In the name and by commission of the Commission for the Negro Mission
Christoph F. Drewes.
