PROPOSED AGENDA

The assisting ministers read one or more portions of Hol Scripture from
each of the following sections.

THE INSTITUTION OF THE OFFICE
OF THE PUBLIC MINISTRY

A Then Jesus came to them and said. ~All authority in heaven and on earth has
been given to me. Therefore g0 and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Hoty Spirit, and teaching
them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you
always, to the very end of the age. (Matt. 2& 18-20)

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do
you truly love me more than these?" “Yes. Lord.” he said, “you know that I love
you.” Jesus said. “Feed my lambs." Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you
truly love me?" He answered, “Yes, Lord, vou know that | love you.” Jesus said.
“Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him. “Simon son of John, do vou
love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time. “Do you love
me?" He said. “Lord. you know all things: you know that I love vou.” Jesus said,
“Feed my sheep.” (John 21-15-17)

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already taid. which is
Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly
stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the
Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the
quality of each man’s work. (1 Cor. 2 (1-13)

THE RFSPONSIBILITIES OF THE OFFICE
OF THE PUBLIC MINISTRY

4 We do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your

servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”

made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the know ledge of the glory of
30d in the face of Christ. (2 Cor 4+:5-6)

Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone,
came with glory. so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of
Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, will not the ministry of the
Spirit be even more Blorious? (2 Cor. 3:7-&)

The Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to
teach. not resentful. Those who Oppose him he must gently instruct. in the hope that
God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth. (2 Tim

224-25)

God gathers his Church by and around his holy W ord and also grants it growth and
increase. That this may be done, he has established the office of the public ministry
into which you were ordained. It is fitting that you should again acknowledge the
responsibilities of this holy office in which you are to sere this (these)
congregations).

In the presence of God and of this Congregation I now ask you:

® Do you accept the three Ecumenicat Creeds: the Aposties’, the Nicene. and the
Athanasian Creeds, as faithful testimonies to the truth of the Hols Scriptures, and
do you reject all the errors which they condemn?

* Ido.

P Do you believe that the Unaltered Augsburg Confession is a true exposition of
the Word of God and a correct exhibition of the doctrine of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church; that the Apology of the Augsburg Confession. the Small and
Large Catechisms of Martin Luther, the Smalcald Articles, the Treatise on the
Authority and Primacy of the Pope, and the Formula of Concord—as these are
contained in the Book of Concord—are also in agreement with this one Scriptural
faith?

* [do

” Do you solemnly promise that you will perform the duties of your office in
accordance with these Confessions, or Symbols, and that all your teaching and
your administration of the sacraments will be in conformity with the Holy
Scriptures and with the aforementioned Symbols?

*  T do.

P Will you faithfully instruct both young and old in the chief articles of Christian
doctrine; will you forgive the sins of those who repent, and do vou promise never to
divulge the sins confessed to you: will vou minister faithfully to the sick and dying:
will you demonstrate to the Church a constant and ready ministry. admonishing the
people to a lively confidence in Christ and holy living?

OF THE PUBLIC MINISTRY

A “So you also. when you have done everything vou were told to do. should
say, ‘We are unworthy servants: we have only done our duty.” “(Luke 17-10)

Therefore I do not run tike a man running aimlessly: I do not fight like a man
beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have

persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has

yourselves fully to the work of the Lord. because you know that your labor in
