W. M. Childress

I would hope that our Synod would con-
tinue to work toward being a strong support
system for both congregations and profes-
sional workers.

Earl W. Elowsky

Roger J. Humann

My desire for the Synod is for it to stand
fast in its Biblical commitment and Confes-
sional heritage and to abound in its work of
evangelism both at home and abroad and inits
education endeavors at every level.

Martin A. Pullmann

The Synod should never lose sight of its
purpose of existence. It is a banding together of
many people to reach out with the saving
Gospel of Jesus Christ. To do this it must have
astrong base. A strong base consists of intens-
ive education in the Word of God at every level
and a strong educational system for the train-
ing of its professional workers. The church can
only be as strong as its members. So training is
very important. Dignified colleges. well paid
professors, and purity of doctrine are vital toa
forward-moving church.

Robert I. Doggett

I have been a member of the Synod's
Commission of Adjudication since 1973 and
am presently secretary of the commission.
Adjudication of disagreements within the
church family have not proliferated, but this
commission provides one of the necessary
means for problems that arise to be settled ina
decent and orderly manner. I hope that the
Synod can go forward in future years with the
leadership walking together maintaining the
purity of doctrine and practice.

Daniel A. Utter

tional sponsorship of missionaries.

I agree totally with Pres. Bohlmann’s
recent statement that we in the LCMS are
neither isolationist nor ecclesiastical lovers:
nor do we believe that we have an exclusive
corner on God’s truth or that He has called us
to be the teachers of all Christendom, as some
have said. We do not rejoice that history has
often seemed to cast us in the role of the loyal
opposition. I would like to see the Synod
remain open to all overtures with regard to
union, but not to sacrifice the truth of God's
Word for the sake of union. We should develop
the “new spirit’ that prevails among us. I
think we should spend time and money in
developing spiritual gifts with our lay people.

Carl E. Korte

It has always been a joy for me to be a
member of The Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod. We struggle to be as conservative as the
Word and as liberal in its proclamation to all
the world by every means at our command.

I dream of a totally integrated program,
where the joy we have in our salvation can be
effectively shared with the man next door, as
well as with our neighbor on the other side of
the world.

Berhard G. Mueller

Cherish and preserve conservative theol-
ogy reaffirmed and reestablished at our semi-
naries. Revive love for the Synod on the part of
pastors and congregations by an ongoing
emphasis on spiritual renewal so that sacrifi-
cial support will flow more freely and make
possihle more aggressive reaching out in our
communities and in pagan lands. Develop
pastoral skills to use Law and Gospelin sucha
way that the Spirit of God can breathe new life
into our church. Considerate but relentlessly
firm insistence on following synodical resolu-
tions we have voluntarily covenanted to
support when we joined.

Paul Mueller

John W. Lohrmann

I would be glad to use the talents that God
has given me in serving on the synodical
Commission on Appeals. I am conyinced that
the future of our church depends greatly upon
the active involvement hy the laity in the work
of the church at all levels.

Charles Pisieczko

Robert L. Wahl

I hope (1) Synod will continue its strict
adherence to the Scriptures as it has through
the past vears, (2) that we will grow in our
Christian faith and our desire to carry out
“The Great Commission,” and (3) that this
might be done at a more rapid rate by making
all—even the remotest grass roots layman—
aware of his responsibility in this endeavor.

John Korcok

I would like to see our Synod be the
rallying center for all confessional Lutherans
around the world because the Synod is holding
firm to ts strong Biblical confessional stance.
Atthes ime time it must become more mission-
minded as the Lord opens the doors. There
needs to be a deeper study of God's Word so
that, as achurch faithful to the Lord, we speak
to the problems that we face in the world, and
as individual Christians we learn to deal with
the problems of life in this day and age which
is so secularized.

George Wollenburg

I believe that our church is confronted
with the following threats at the present and in
the future: (1) The continuing “allure” ofliberal
theology. (2) The increasing influence of Amer-
ican Fundamentalism with its unscriptural
understanding of the means of grace. (3) The
accommodation of our people to the values
system of a secularized society. (4) Inclination
to accept pragmatism as the basis for evaluat-
ing our mission and ministry—if it works, it
must be good.

I believe the following are objectives
toward which we must continue to direct our
resources: (1) To remain orthodox, keeping the
Gospel at the center of our teaching and
preaching. (2) To pursue an aggressive evan-
gelism program that is theologically orthodox.
(3) To assist our pastors and congregations in
helping our people grow ina truly Biblical and
evangelical piety. (4) To continue to share our
God-given doctrinal heritage with other
churches through conversation and dialog.

Don Ridgeway

The Missouri Synod’s devotion to our Lord,
the pure teaching of the Holy Scriptures and
the Lutheran Confessions. and her own good
tradition brings upon her an ever-increasing
responsibility for evangelical witness and out-
reach as Christians become ever more aware of
her. Such devotion is the sure call of the church
to a frightened generation of the world.

Richard E. Watson

I believe that The Lutheran Church—
Missouri Synod will keep steadily in view our
Lord's command to “disciple all nations” and
that its pastors and lay members will be
encouraged to continue in His word and so
become His “disciples indeed.” The Scriptural
basis for our theological formulations should
be continually and thoroughly searched, and
the insights of the faithful teachers of the
church should be remembered. The reports of
the Commission on Theology and Church
Relations should continue to be of help to
pastors in equipping their members for their
several works of ministry.
