PROPOSED AGENDA

behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us .so
that in him we might become the righteousness of God. {> Cor 517-21)

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus. who will judge the living and the
dead. and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:
Preach the W ord: be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and
encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come
when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead. to suit their own desires,
they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their
itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and tum
aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations. endure hardship, do
the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.(2 Tim. 4:1-5)

Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he
desires a noble task. Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of
but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
not given to much wine, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of
money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him
with proper respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family.
how can he take care of God's church?) He must not be a recent convert, or he
may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must
aso have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace
and into the devil's trap.¢1 Tim. 31-7}

“Remain in me, and | will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must
remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. | am the
vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and | in him, he will bear much
fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5)

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be
evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers. to prepare God's people for
works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.(Eph. 4:11-12)

Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you
overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.
{Acts 20:28)

Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care. serving as overseers—not
because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not
greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you,
but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepberd appears, you
will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away./ 1 Peter $:2-4)

accordance with these Confessions, or Symbols, and that all your teaching and
your administration of the sacraments will be in conformity with the Holy
Scriptures and with the aforementioned Sy mbols?

+ Ido.

P Will you faithfully instruct both young and old in the chief articles of Christian
doctrine; will you forgive the sins of those who repent. and do you promise never to
divulge the sins confessed to you; will you minister faithfully to the sick and dying;
will you demonstrate to the Church a constant and ready ministry, admonishing the

A “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness. how can it be
made salty again? It is no longer good for anything. except to be thrown out and
trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be
hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put
it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let
your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your
Father in heaven.” (Matt. 5:13-16)

“Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." For it is not the one who commends
himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends. (2 Cor. 10:17-18)

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced
of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy
you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for
salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is
useful for teaching, rebuking. correcting and training in righteousness, so that
the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim
314-17)

13. The presiding minister addresses the candidate.

® God gathers his Church by and around his holy Word and also grants it growth
and increase. That this may be done, he has established the office of the public
ministry into which you have been called and are now to be ordained and
consecrated by prayer and the laying on of hands.

In the presence of God and of this congregation, | now ask you:

P Do you believe the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments to be the

do.

P Do you accept the three Ecumenical Creeds: the Apostles’, the Nicene, and the
Athanasian Creeds, as faithful testimonies to the truth of the Holy Scriptures. and
do you reject all the errors which they condemn?

P Do you believe that the Unaltered Augsburg Confession is a true exposition of
the Word of God and a correct exhibition of the doctrine of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church; that the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Smal} and

Authority and Primacy of the Pope. and the Formula of Concord—as these are
