286 Kirchlich⸗Zeitgeschichtliches.

seligen Dr. Rudelbach vom Jahre 1863 an Prof. Dr. Delitzsch neben Prof. Dr. Guericke
redigiren.

Die preußisch⸗luth. Kirche. Ueber den gegenwärtigen Stand der Dinge in
dieser Gemeinschaft berichtet das luth. Synodalblatt von Lohmann im Juniheft Folgendes:
„Unsre kirchliche Lage hat sich im Verlauf dieses Jahres immer ernster und trüber gestaltet;

286 Church News of the Day.

the caste question, dissenting, has repentantly rejoined the fold, and, including the three new missionaries and the native workers, 19 workers will be laboring among the Tamils by the end of this year. The company of the converted numbers 5,194, almost 200 more than in the previous year, scattered across 184 places.

The Lutheran Synodal-Blatt, published by R. Lohmann, pastor of the evangelical Lutheran parish of Fürstenwalde, ceased publication with the close of the first semester of this year, on account of the too-small subscription the paper had found, after a year and a half of existence. We think that, had the paper not lent itself to being a mouthpiece for various convictions, and had it represented only the old, pure teaching of Luther, it would probably not have met with this fate. It seems incomprehensible to us how someone who, by God's grace, has the truth, could allow one who does not yet have it to air his immature theorems in that same person's own paper, and hope from this for an eventual common recognition of the truth as its fruit.

The Rudelbach-Guericke journal will, from the year 1863, in place of the late Dr. Rudelbach, be edited by Prof. Dr. Delitzsch alongside Prof. Dr. Guericke.

The Prussian Lutheran Church. Concerning the present state of affairs in this communion, the Lutheran Synodalblatt of Lohmann reports the following in its June number: "Our ecclesiastical situation has, in the course of this year, become ever more serious and gloomy; the position of the pastors who stand up, in word and deed, for the doctrine of church order and church government that accords with the confession, becomes ever more difficult; and matters have already reached the point that young theologians who share our conviction on the disputed points of doctrine hesitate even to present themselves for examination. It may be the sincere will of the members of the O. K. C. [Supreme Church Council], in accordance with the assurance they gave in Berlin, to let themselves be guided in the conduct of their office not by their private opinion of church government, but only by their instructions: but they evidently
