Emigranten⸗Miſſion.

Der Emigranten⸗Miſſionar der Miſſouri⸗Synode in New York, Herr
Paſtor S. Keyl überſandte der Conferenz folgende Zuſchrift:

(Für die Synodal⸗Conferenz!)

— Betrug in dieſer Beziehung iſt
groß und häufig.

Liebe.

größere Anſtrengungen unſererſeits in dieſer Beziehung nöthig; denn

The emigrant missionary of the Missouri Synod in New York, Rev. S. Keyl, sent the Conference the following communication:

(For the Synodical Conference [*Synodal⸗Conferenz*]!)

"1.) All members of the Synodical Conference (pastors and laymen) are requested to place in my hands their commissions concerning the transport of their friends or relatives from Germany to New York, their reception here and onward transport from here. — All money needed for immigrants should not be sent to agents but directly to me, so that I can procure ship and railway tickets for the people.

2.) All who travel from the various congregations to Germany should be referred to me, so that I can obtain passage tickets for them and change money, etc. — Fraud in this respect is great and frequent.

3.) Since all are served in the same unselfish manner, our work should also be vigorously supported by all through gifts of love.

4.) Any complaints about me, wishes, etc., should be brought to the attention of our Committee.

A member of the Emigrant Mission Committee in New York gave some further explanations concerning this submission, and he and others urgently advocated vigorous furtherance of the very important matter in the sense of all particulars of the submission. The faithful and truly laborious work of the missionary was duly acknowledged, and with regard to the last point it was stressed that in it, to be sure, oversights on his part could easily occur here and there, for which, however, one should not reproach him but for that very reason should rather bring any complaints to the Committee. By God's grace, it was said further, the most necessary funds for the maintenance of the work have not been lacking so far. Since, however, through the early appointment of an assistant in it for Bremen and Hamburg the costs are growing, greater exertions on our part in this respect are also needed; for although help in this matter has also been held out to us by our fellow believers in Germany, we ought not to rely on it so much that we should not ourselves support the cause vigorously with our gifts of love. Accordingly we should put before our congregations what has already been done for the needy immigrants of our confession, and so encourage them to take cheerful part in the work well pleasing to God
