Kirchlich⸗Zeitgeschichtliches. 315
Es will unsrer Landeskirche dienen.

Church and Contemporary History. 315
...paper will remain the same as was given to it at its founding and has been preserved by the two previous editorships. It desires to serve our territorial church. But precisely in order to be able to serve, not merely one part of it, but the whole territorial church as its organ, it is alone entitled and likewise enabled thereto by this, that her confessional foundation is also its foundation, on which it stands and remains. On this there is room enough for freedom of movement and of discussion. It is a great blessing for a territorial church when the right of its confession is unbroken. This blessing we may enjoy. But it is not enough that the confession stands in law; it wills to be fact, wills to be reality. How much is still lacking in this among us is manifest. Out of this grow for our church the tasks she has to solve. This is certain: churchliness, conformity to the confession, cannot be outwardly commanded nor put on like a garment without danger of untruth. And what would the former avail if its content were lacking, namely Christianity? But it must come to be, the latter in and with the former. To recall that the life of our church should shape itself ever more churchly, to serve this task for its part — that is the calling of this paper."
Gießen. Here, as we read in the Saxon K. und Sch. Blatt, a young lecturer Zöckler has lately qualified as a university teacher, "of whom it may well be hoped that the confession of the church will find a representative in him."
