All Manner of Weight and Measure Is Alike an Abomination to the Lord! 11
...Porte has come under the guardianship of its powerful neighbors, only in the non-recognition of the papal supremacy by the mightiest of these guardians — the heir of the old Eastern Roman empire — lies the barbarism that threatens the interests of Western "civilization," which believes itself called, through its fleshly sonship of God, to the possession of the earth. The new crusades are, in other words, the last struggle between the fallen royal priesthood of the West and the fallen priestly kingship of the East, which, in their mutual claim to universality, cannot stand side by side. But who will carry off the victory here cannot be in doubt, even without the prophecy of the first crusades. The Church of the Resurrection reaches further than the Church of the Cross and of reconciliation; the kingship is stronger than the priesthood, and holy Nicholas or Michael, or whoever else is one day to fall heir to the role of the god of fortresses (Dan. 11:38), will also be mightier than "our dear Lady;" for as it is written (Dan. 11:37), "he shall regard neither the love of women nor any god." But should not this victory be followed by the very same reversal — only, since everything now moves far more swiftly, also much sooner, and now even reaching into the original heart itself? For the East still owes a reckoning for this: that it once sacrificed the hard-pressed Byzantine empire to the Turk; and it seems that what the old West-Eastern Roman empire brought, as it were typologically, to its close must now be repeated for the renewed West-Eastern empire — for the present Romano-Germanic Occident and the Byzantine-Slavic Orient — in that Justinian, as — even then, already after the fall of the Western emperor — the West rose up against the East, laid waste the mother city of dominion on earth so utterly as she had never been laid waste before, and made her land into the last of his provinces. So much is beyond doubt — even the unbelieving are told this by a dark foreboding — European mankind stands at the beginning of terrible birth-pangs, in which the wrath of the Lord, who will give His honor to no other, nor His glory to idols, will hold a reckoning for the sake of sins that reach up to heaven.

All Manner of Weight and Measure Is Alike an Abomination to the Lord! *)
says Scripture. Should not the Church of the Lord leave such an abomination to the world, and keep herself far from it? Certainly she should! The Church in our fatherland does not, in all respects, seem to leave this abomination,
