As a professor and administrator at the college and university
level for over 50 years and currently completing a term on the
board of regents of an LCMS seminary, I believe I have good
familiarity with all sides of the academic relationship and useful experience and outlook for helping to direct progress at
an LCMS university. The CUS system has been an important feeder source to the seminaries in the past years and could
be—should be—once again with some simple changes in
focus and offerings. Such refocusing need not be detrimental
to the balance of each university’s overall program.

Concordia Seminary was one of God’s instruments in forming and shaping me to serve as a pastor. I have been honored
to serve on its board in a triennium that has brought great challenges and opportunities. If re-elected, I am committed to
doing all within my ability to provide leadership and support
so that, with God’s blessings, the seminary will fulfill to the
best of its capacity the mission to prepare pastors after God’s
heart and provide trustworthy theological leadership for the
church.

What a blessing our seminaries are
to the church! We are responding
to the call to raise up pastors who have God’s seeking heart
for the lost. What a joy to be able to equip pastors to lead congregations in receiving and sharing the Good News of God’s
passionate love with our lost and dying world. I believe that
God is preparing great things for us to do (Eph. 2:19)! It is
imperative that we raise up church leaders to equip God’s
people to worship and serve God with their time, talents,
resources, and influence.

Having served in a number of different capacities at the district and congregational level, I believe my experience and my
background as an attorney for businesses would be an asset to
the Board of Regents. I would work with the board to advocate
long-term financial stability for the university, while preserving it as an integral part of our Synod and a valuable resource
to educate the next generation of Lutherans. There are plenty
of private universities; there are few with a distinctively
Lutheran and confessional identity. Developing and promoting that identity should be the university’s primary mission.
