proclamation of the Gospel. As a convert to Lutheranism as
a young adult, I am motivated to strengthen the educational
institutions of the LCMS and reach out to those for whom
Christ died but have not heard the Gospel message. Incumbent
upon newly elected leaders is the obligation to join with colleagues, in loyalty to the LCMS Constitution commitment to
Scriptures and Confessions, as the Gospel is applied in activities of each board.

I pray that together we would seek
to understand and follow the Lord’s
vision for mission and ministry that He holds out to us in His
Word—moving forward in unity and sharing the Gospel of
our loving Lord Jesus to a lost and hurting world.

Lutheran higher education has a
great opportunity to make a significant contribution to our society and
communities. We assist students to
become the people God would have
them to be in all their various callings, from being professional church workers, to nurses, to
educators, to business people—the list is endless. As a university we need to be involved in our surrounding communities,
making a witness to the love of God in our hearts. “As the
Father has sent Me, so I send you” [John 21:19] (our universities) into the world to show God’s care and love.

The unbelieving world’s responses to today’s religious, intellectual, moral, and social issues attempt to suppress the truth.
Equipped with the Concordia University System, the LCMS
has a unique opportunity to respond: to prepare servants
that, in their many God-given vocations, speak faithfully and
work wisely for the bold proclamation of the whole counsel
of God. In the CUS institutions, we offer the dynamic, hopeful, and comprehensive worldview found only in Christ Jesus,
crucified, risen, and reigning. This rich Christian tradition—
addressing intellect, body, and spirit—that we inherited we
seek to nurture, enhance, and pledge to the next generation.
This is a very challenging and exciting time for the Synod as
we boldly attempt to respond to God’s command to proclaim
the Good News to those around us. In this world of techno
gadgets and instant communication, we have the opportunity
to explore new ways of communicating and building relationships with people both inside and outside of the church and to
recapture our fervor to reach others. My prayer is that we be
mindful to use all of the resources God has given to us, human
and gadget.
