Ausg. XXII, 439
und Suppl. S. 50 und bei Walch X, 967 und XXI, 241. — Hiernach sind
die Register im 53. und im 56. Bande zu corrigiren.

II. Verbesserungen des Textes, Ergänzungen und Conjecturen
zu Band 53.

Bd. 53, p. 283 Z. 11 v. u. statt „doch hinaus louden“ ist wahrscheinlich
zu lesen: „doch hinaus lauden,“ d. i. da hinaus lauten, darauf abzielen,
dahin kommen.

„ „ vierte „ „ „ in seiner Supplication
„ „ fünfte „ „ „ kommen ist
„ „ sechste „ „ „ Herzen
„ „ siebente „ „ „ Mann
„ „ achte „ „ „ Haus voll

Bd. 53, p. 284, Z. 2 von unten füge hinzu: allzu.

III.

Neuern in Wittenberg.

Schrift Bd. 28, p. 285 ff. „Von beider Gestalt des Sacraments zu nehmen
und anderer Neuerung.“ 1522. Dieselbe ist gleichzeitig mit diesem Briefe
vom Monat März, denn Bd. 28, p. 286 in der Ueberschrift: „M. Mart.
1522.“ ist zu lesen: „mense Martis 1522.“

306 A Contribution to the Improvement of the Editions of Luther's Works.

is always given only to a nobleman. The heading should therefore
read: "to a nobleman." This letter, with an introduction, stands
once more at Vol. 64, p. 286; it also appears twice, in the Leipzig edition, XXII, 439,
and Suppl., p. 50, and in Walch X, 967, and XXI, 241. — Accordingly
the registers in the 53rd and in the 56th volumes are to be corrected.

II. Corrections to the Text, Supplements, and Conjectures
for Volume 53.

Vol. 53, p. 283, line 11 from the bottom, instead of "doch hinaus louden" it is probably
to be read "doch hinaus lauden," that is, to tend thither, to aim at that,
to come to that.

Vol. 53, p. 380, lines 20 and 21 from the top, instead of "Fehlen," "gefehlet," perhaps:
"Fihlen, gefihlet," for "fühlen, gefühlet" [to feel, felt] — that is, from the first movement of
the child on; she has now felt movement for over twenty weeks.

The gaps in No. 229 are to be filled in as follows:

into the first gap insert: "Mocha"
" " second " " " "to have committed herself"
" " third " " " "because the"
" " fourth " " " "in his supplication"
" " fifth " " " "has come"
" " sixth " " " "heart"
" " seventh " " " "man"
" " eighth " " " "house full"

Vol. 53, p. 284, line 2 from the bottom, add: "altogether."

III. Notes and Explanations to Volume 53.

From Letters No. 38 through 44 one may, with great probability, improve the
historical introduction to the writing "A Faithful Admonition to All Christians to
Guard Themselves Against Rebellion and Insurrection, 1522 (the 19th of January),"
Volume 22, p. 43, roughly as follows:

The occasion for this writing was given by the incautious changing and
innovating at Wittenberg. In December of the year 1521 Luther had
admonished the people of Wittenberg (Volume 53, p. 99ff.) to spare the weak
and to guard against spreading the Gospel by force and against injuring
love. Here he shows again (Vol. 22, pp. 56–59) what difference
must be observed in the treatment of the obstinate and of the weak,
and warns that those who boast of the Gospel must not, by their
offensive, loveless conduct, give the enemies of right doctrine a welcome
occasion for slander.

Letter No. 44, Vol. 53, p. 118, is written with reference to the
writing Vol. 28, p. 285ff., "On Receiving Both Kinds of the Sacrament,
and on Other Innovation." 1522. This is contemporary with this letter,
which is from the month of March, for Vol. 28, p. 286, in the heading, "M. Mart.
1522," is to be read: "mense Martis 1522" [in the month of March, 1522].
