Note. — The wish to establish such an institution is said to have
already been expressed by several respected English residents of the
city, and that was the occasion for this resolution.
Building Lots in Dayton, Ohio.
The *Präses* laid before the Synod the matter of the building lots in
Dayton, Ohio, donated to the Synod by Mr. Bühler. According to a letter
from Pastor Hordoff of Dayton, those lots, said to be worth about $250,
carry a $50 tax debt, and their current holders are willing to give up
their claim on payment of that $50. The Synod resolved that Mr. Bühler
be asked to take the matter in hand himself and, on payment of the $50,
secure a proper deed of purchase and gift for the Synod. The deputy of
the Baltimore congregation was asked to communicate this wish of the
Synod to Mr. Bühler. At the same time Pastor Wichmann was charged with
looking into the donated building lots in Dayton in person.
Accounts of the Treasurer and the Book Committee.
These accounts have been examined and found correct. As for the account
of the synodical treasurer, it shows that $1207.23 was received in
contributions toward delegates' travel expenses, and $1056.71 was spent
for that purpose. The remaining balance of $150.52 was credited to and
received into the synodical treasury.
Further, receipts for the *Lutheraner*, etc. amounted to.............$1676.82
And expenditures totaled......................................................... 1264.70
Leaving a balance of.....................................................................$ 412.12
Finally, receipts into the synodical treasury totaled.................................$ 975.24
Expenditures totaled....................................................................$ 846.10
Leaving a balance of.......................................................................$ 129.14
Mr. Bergmann (Book Committee) realized a net profit of $126.12 in the
past year and offered half of it, $63.06, to the Synod for its
book-publishing fund. Resolved: that this be accepted.
Individual Resolutions.
1. A motion was made that the *Präses* of the Synod should also visit
those preachers whose congregations do not yet belong to the synodical
fellowship, since these brothers need instruction, counsel, comfort, and
encouragement no less than the others; and it was resolved that the
*Präses* should visit these preachers themselves, even if not their
congregations, during his visitation journeys.
2. The Lutheran congregation at Rochester, N. Y., which was admitted
into our synodical fellowship as noted on p. 211, asked the Synod that,
if not sooner, then at least by next fall, it be provided with a
capable and faithful Luthe...
