Lutheran Synodical Conference, 1958 187
MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTIONS
Report of Committee 8
1
WuereAs, In many areas of our land there is a growing tend-
ency to restrict the missionary expansion of the churches through
he device of restrictive covenants written into legal documents;
it
Resolved, That the Synodical Conference express its deep con-
cern and its protest against the indirect infringement of the rights
of religious liberty and free assembly guaranteed by the constitu-
tional Bill of Rights; and be it furthermore
Resolved, That the Synodical Conference hereby request the
constituent synods to urge their legal counselors to study the his-
tory of recent decisions and to explore possible legal remedies.
2
Wuereas, Our fellow Christians of the Free Church in Germany
are living in perilous times and have had to undergo many hard-
ships and persecutions; and
Wuereas, These fellow Lutherans need and desire our prayers;
therefore be it
Resolved, That we send the greetings of this 45th convention
of the Synodical Conference to our brethren in that hard-pressed
land and that we continue to pray for the members of the con-
gregations of our sister synods in Germany and that we encourage
our congregations to do likewise.
3
Wuereas, It has been the privilege of this convention to enjoy
the gracious hospitality of SS. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church,
Lakewood, Ohio, and the pastor, the Rev. Mr. George Vojtko; and
Wuereas, The ladies of said congregation have generously fed
the delegates of this convention and have rendered many other
services; and
Wuereas, Individuals of the local congregation and other Lu-
theran churches in Cleveland have assumed secretarial duties in
connection with the convention; be it therefore
Resolved, That we express our gratitude to them and that the
secretary make this known to them by a letter of thanks.
4
Wuereas, The Cleveland Federation of Lutheran Churches
through its executive secretary, Mr. Richard Gravesmill, has been
most helpful in establishing contacts with the press and other
agencies and has given much aid toward the success of the con-
vention; therefore be it
Resolved, That the convention express its gratitude to this
federation and its executive secretary and that the secretary of
this convention send a copy of this resolution to Mr. Gravesmill.
