74 Proceedings of the Forty-fifth Convention

All repairs have already been made through the assistance of =
our Christian friends. Not only has our church been repaired, but *
an anonymous donor replaced all of our old altar fixtures damaged

by the storm with new fixtures and a beautiful Communion set. 4
On July 20 of this year, St. Paul’s Congregation is preparing 4

to celebrate its Sixtieth Anniversary of pure Gospel preaching. g
Members of St. Paul’s and all persons who have been baptized or 3
confirmed at her altar since the 60 years of her founding are %
raising a fund with which to decorate the church windows, repair
and enlarge the vestry, elevate the pulpit, and present the church
with a new set ot organ and altar books, and an agenda and present
them to St. Paul’s on her Sixtieth Anniversary. What a fine way of
expressing their appreciation of what St. Paul’s has done for them!
Since the last meeting of the Synodical Conference, St. Paul’s
reported a very slow progress in adding new members, due to the
fact of the southern Negro’s migration to the North and West.
A new trend has developed since. Many of our people who had
moved away are returning home. Members who had been trans-
ferred to sister congregations, are returning to their old church
home. It is needless to say that with the returning of our people
to the South, new opportunities are opened for our church. As a
result, our church record reveals 8 members transferred back to
us; 16 children and adults have been baptized, and 14 children and
adults have been confirmed the past two years — a total of 38 souls.
May the Lord continue to pour His Holy Spirit upon all the
members of our venerable Synodical Conference, and fill their
hearts with greater zeal with a vision of harvesting the blood-
bought souls of spiritually lost Negroes. C. P. THomPson

Mount Zion, New Orleans, La.

God has continued to bless Mount Zion spiritually and ma-
terially. We began the year 1956 with a school cafeteria and lunch
program. Now the children need not endanger their lives by street
traffic in crossing the street to the corner grocer for food. The
greatest materialistic blessing at our school was completed just
before the opening of the school in the fall. The school building
received a new coat of paint, both on the interior and exterior.
The chalkboards were made over to a light green color, which is
more efficient and very popular today. New fluorescent lights were
installed to replace the old type bulbs, which were inadequate on
dark, rainy days. New desks were purchased for both pupils and
teachers. We were quite rushed getting all things in readiness by
school opening, but thanks to the help of God this was accomplished.

In 1956 we received into the church militant:

35 children and 1 adult through Baptism
8 children and 6 adults through confirmation
Only 1 person was called into the church triumphant

God’s blessings never cease. In 1957, the members purchased
a white robe for the pastor to wear during the hot summer
months. The robe was first used in the Easter service.

Uniforms were introduced in the school in September. The
boys wear khaki shirts and trousers and the girls, white blouses and
navy-blue skirts. The children in these uniforms present a very
neat and orderly appearance.
