94 Proceedings of the Forty-fifth Convention

The Seminary student body worships daily in the small chapel
across the road from the compound. Now that the ministerial stu-
dents are receiving part of their training in our High School, it
would be most fitting and essential for good harmony and Chris- .
tian fellowship that the two student bodies worship together. Under
the present arrangement this cannot be done.

By January 1960, a building will be needed large enough to
permit worshiping opportunities for at least the following:

High School student body 300
High School staff, families 25
Seminary student body 30
African employees —O.I. area 15
Missionaries and families 90

Total 460

It is therefore not overestimating it to say that such a building
must be large enough to seat 500 people.

How to Meet This Need: The two Boards of Governors, upon
considering the great need for a chapel to serve the two institu-
tions, deliberated at length on how to meet this need.

It was decided to present a request to the Missionary Board
of the Lutheran Synodical Conference to aid us in our need by
making funds available to build a Chapel which will serve the
Seminary and High School, that this chapel be large enough to
seat 500 persons and that its estimated cost be no greater than
£ 7,000 ($19,600). It was also hoped that the Missionary Board
would give much consideration to this request before the Synodical
Conference meets in session in August of this year.

It was also decided to inform the Board of Directors of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Nigeria of the action of the two
Boards of Governors, and to request the Aqua Esop, all congre-
gations and pastors of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Nigeria,
to support this effort with their fervent prayers and gifts.

It is the hope of the two Boards of Governors that we all will
make a united prayerful effort so that, with the Lord’s help, this
chapel may be complete before 1961, the 25th anniversary of the
Nigeria Lutheran Church.

Yours in Christ,
H. A. Hern, for
