. Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church at Selma, Ala.,
heart of the Black Belt, fifteen miles from Cahaba, the first capital
of Alabama. The congregation was organized in 1924. During the
ears the congregation has made steady progress in gaining souls
for the Kingdom as well as inward growth. In the last two years
_ there have been 22 confirmations and 17 baptisms. During the same
F time there were many transferred to other congregations in the
& North as well as here in the South.
if The number of confirmations and baptisms might be consid-
ered small when compared with other areas of our country, but
here in the South only a few years ago the Lutheran Church was
not known. Here also many false prophets are found, who out-
‘number the true preachers of the Word at a ratio of 96 to 1. This
makes the work at times very difficult and hard.
However, there is a great future for our church here in Selma.
God’s Word “will not return to Him void.”
a Since the congregation was organized it has given the church
’ two ministers of the Gospel, the late Rev. J ohn Calhoun and Rev.
¢ Samuel Kent, now pastor of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Baton
Rouge, La. Trinity has also provided many teachers for our Chris-
tian day schools. This congregation serves the 140 students of Ala-
bama Lutheran Academy and College.
The congregation is being encouraged to increase its efforts
toward self-support. Many thanks to the Missionary Board for its
continued support during the years! P. R. Hunt

Hope Ev. Lutheran Church was organized in April 1924. The
church is situated seventeen miles from Selma, near the Alabama
River, just one mile from the old home of William Rufus King, the
14th Vice-President of the United States. Here the old home-house
still stands, occupied by some of the great-grandchildren of his
former slaves. Here in this community the church has carried on
mission work for the last 34 years.
