Bethlehem Lutheran Congregation is a rural congregation in
Autauga County. As in other rural congregations, its young people
are migrating to larger cities. One year eleven girls and boys went
to such cities as Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and New York. They
have been followed up with transfers.
Bethlehem is still well blessed. It has sixteen voters, who are
home owners, and most of them have a year-round income, while
they farm as part time. In January we began a stewardship pro-
gram with the purpose of becoming self-supporting. In the months
of February and March there was a noticeable increase in the
offerings. We also have plans to build a new church.
Peace Lutheran Church is an urban congregation in the town
of Maplesville. Its members have migrated to find work in other
cities. We have a new church, and the few people there are paying
the indebtedness. We have Bible class every Tuesday night, and
from this class we expect to get some new members. Our average
offering per communicant was $59.30 for the year 1957.
St. John’s Lutheran Church is also a rural congregation. It has
a future in its young people. Some of its members have moved
back, it may be that others will come soon. Its average offering
is $39.00 per communicant for 1957. Plans are made to consolidate
this congregation with Holy Ark.
Prattville Mission is in the town of Prattville, the county seat
of Autauga. The American Lutheran Church had a church some
twelve years ago, but has discontinued this work. We have about
fifteen members living in this town. For our Bible school we have
as high as 85 children, and many have never been to Sunday
school. At present we are having our services in a rented store,
but we have plans to build soon. C, L. GRAEBER
