Lutheran Synodical Conference, 1958 15

Because the city buses have been routed on the street in front
our school, more repair work was necessary. The heavy buses
caused the ceiling boards to spread, thus permitting dust from the
R attic to sift down upon the students in the classroom facing the
street. The male members of Mount Zion got together and, after
nailing plywood to the ceiling, gave it a coat of paint and so the dust
problem was remedied.
In 1957 we received into the church militant:
17 children and 1 adult through Baptism
8 children and 1 adult by confirmation
1 was received into the Kingdom of Glory

New changes are constantly taking place. In January 1958,
a new heating system was installed. The fire marshal had informed
us that the city law did not permit heating units in narrow church
aisles such as at Mount Zion. In compliance with the city law we
removed the several heating units and installed a central heating
system.

The School Aid Club which was organized at the beginning
of the 1957—1958 school year has been very active. By April 1958,
the Club had raised enough funds to install an electric water cooler
in each of our four classrooms.

So far this year we have received into membership, 3 children
and 1 adult through Baptism; 6 children and 5 adults through
confirmation. Rev. V. E. Morirz

Bethlehem, New Orleans, La.

Bethlehem Congregation begins by thanking the Lord for all
of the wonderful blessings He has showered upon it. We are happy
to give the following report of our church:

Pastor Theodore W. Cooper was installed as pastor of Beth-
lehem on the last Sunday in September 1957. God blessed the con-
gregation with a large crowd of worshipers who thanked God on
that day. A reception followed in the church basement.

Bethlehem Congregation now numbers some 485 baptized souls.
The members of the congregation are now making plans to reach
each member of the church in order that the records may be ac-
curate as well as Christ preached to each member.

Six adults were received into membership on November 24,
1957. We are happy to report that 18 children were confirmed on
Palm Sunday. These children were all products of our Christian
day school. “GOD GIVETH THE INCREASE.” A number of other
good things have happened in the interest of the Kingdom of God.
The congregation, by way of special pledge, gave the church build-
ing a “face lifting” on the inside, The appearance has made quite
a difference to the worshipers. The congregation made its pastor
and family happy by acquiring a lovely. parsonage. The price of
this house was: $7,500. The money was loaned to the congrega-
tion by the Missionary Board of the Synodical Conference. The
matter was carried through the Louisiana Regional Committee.
The pastor now lives “among his members.”

Our school had an enrollment of 239 children. Twenty-two of
these children graduated on June 8, 1958. We need a Lutheran
