Lutheran Synodical Conference, 1958 85

tones to go into other sections of the Dark Continent where Satan
is inoculating men with a deadly venom which brings about
temporal and eternal death. While the signs of the times are
foreshadowing the imminent dissolution of the universe, while
men’s hearts are filled with fear on account of the A-bomb
development, and tests are being conducted to remind men con-
stantly of the uncertainties of life-—-God comes to us and offers
us an opportunity to do something to assuage the grief of men,
to set their hearts right with their Creator so that there may
enter into their hearts the peace which passeth all understanding.
What are we going to do about this? Surely, it deserves a careful
consideration and study. We ask the question: “Can we whose
souls are lighted with wisdom from on high, can we to men
benighted the lamp of life deny?”

If you, dear President, feel that it is a good procedure to send
all members of the Plenary Board a copy. of the Ghana letter
and request their reaction to same, we here in the office will
be willing and ready to comply with your request. It will be
no trouble for us, since we may have Thermofax-Secretary
copies made at a nominal cost.

The letter from the Rev. Samuel K. Asante was addressed
to Dr. W. Baepler. He forwarded it to the undersigned. We are
in turn, presenting it to you, dear President Bradac.

May God grant us the will to do and to dare for Him who
loved us even unto death!

Kari Kurtu, Executive Secretary

Under date of July 11, 1957, Dr. Bradac replied to Dr. Kurth’s
letter as follows:

Dear Dr. Kurth:

The letter from Rev. Samuel K. Asante of Ghana, West Africa,
is most interesting and challenging. Yes, I, too, believe that the
good Lord is again opening us a door of golden opportunity to
save souls and to extend God’s Kingdom on the Dark Continent
of Africa. °

I was so amazed and overjoyed when I read your letter and
the letter of Rev. Asante that my first reaction was that we must
do something in this matter and must do it without delay. Yes,
it will be a good procedure to send all members of the Plenary
Board a copy of the letter and to request their immediate reaction
to the same.

Also, in the meantime, will you kindly answer the letter also
in my name and send me a copy of it? Trusting that it is the
Lord Himself who is calling us to Ghana, let us listen to His voice
and plea and act in the matter wholeheartedly.

With best wishes, Yours in the Lord’s service,

Joun S. BRADAC

President, Synodical Conference
The entire Ghana matter should be given prayerful considera-
tion by the convention at its present session. It is the prayer and
the hope of the Missionary Board that the Lord of the Church may
so guide and direct the delegates at the convention to see their
way clear to go forward into the missionary work in Ghana.

Lutheran Hour

Dr. E. Bertermann, representing “the Lutheran Hour” operat-
