EXPLANATION OF PROPOSED BUDGET

Domestic Missions

1, Salaries — $150,000. A total of 50 workers (27 pastors, 5 male
teachers, 28 lady teachers) are on the payroll of the Missionary Board.
Most of these workers are under the supervision of two Regional Mis-
sion Committees, one in Selma, Alabama, and the other in New Or-
leans, Louisiana. Last year all workers were granted a salary increase.
Their earnings now closely approximate the salary level prevailing in
the Southern District. All self-sustaining congregations are also en-
couraged to increase the salaries of their pastors and teachers.

2, Expansion —0. This item formerly applied to the development
of new mission stations in Florida, but that work has now been taken
over by the Florida-Georgia District; therefore the item has been
eliminated from the budget of the Missionary Board.

3. Rent Paid (Stations and Parsonages) — $10,000. Rental for build-
ing and rooms used for Sunday school and church purposes in Mobile,
Prichard, Vida, Maysville, Gadsden, Atmore, and Bessemer, Alabama;
Pensacola, Florida; Baton Rouge and Shreveport, Louisiana; Jackson,
Mississippi. Also parsonage rental at various locations.

4. Travel Expense — $10,000. Missionaries receive an auto mileage
allowance of $30 per month if their assignment is in the urban areas.
In rural sections they receive 7¢ per mile. The traveling expenses of
Regional Mission Committee members are also charged to this account.
