lenke, daß der rechte und paſſendſte Mann zu dieſem Amte erwählt werde;

a. Uebrige Beamte der allgemeinen Synode: Paſtor Th. J.
Brohm, Vicepräſes; Paſtor F. W. Husman, Secr. p. t., Secretär, und
Herr F. W. Barthel, bisheriger Caſſirer, allgemeiner Caſſirer.

b. Sämmtliche Beamte der vier Diſtrictsſynoden:

Schieferdecker, Präſes; Paſtor J. F. Bünger, Vicepräſes; Paſtor C. A. Th.
Selle, Secretär; E. Roſchke, Caſſirer;

2) des mittleren Diſtricts, Indiana, Ohio: Paſtor und Pro⸗

Diſtrict Columbia (laut des vom Hrn. Vicepräſes, Paſt. Th. Brohm, welcher

veranſtaltet, eingeſandten Berichts): Paſtor E. G. W. Keyl, Präſes; Paſtor
A. Hoyer, Vicepräſes; Paſtor K. Diehlmann, Secretär; Herr J. H. Berg⸗

finally, that his physical constitution [Körperconſtitution] also be such
as could bear more extended travel, etc. Prof. Biewend then showed how
the Synod should ask God, above all, to so guide hearts and votes that
the right and most fitting man be elected to this office; and how it
should then also carry out the work in the right way, having regard
both to the candidates' gifts and to their circumstances, and, in just
that, attending to God's own pointing hand. As to the outward
procedure, he advised holding a preliminary ballot — drawing from it
the three candidates who received the most votes; then, in public or in
separate deliberation and brotherly discussion, weighing the relative
merit of one or another, and then proceeding to the final ballot. The
Synod received these remarks and hints of the dear brothers with
attention and thanks, and, after imploring the Lord God for
illumination and the guidance of hearts, proceeded to the preliminary
ballot, in which, as in the later final ballot, the ballots sent in by
the synodical congregations were of course taken into account and
counted. After further and various remarks on the candidates put
forward in the preliminary ballot, and after various objections raised
by them against their possible election, the Synod proceeded to the
final ballot, the result of which was: "that Pastor F. Wyneken,
president pro tempore [Präſes p. t.], had been elected general
president." —

Election of the Remaining Officers.

The Synod then proceeded to the election of the remaining officers,
both for the general Synod and for the respective district synods, and
the result was as follows:

a. Remaining officers of the general Synod: Pastor Th. J. Brohm,
vice-president; Pastor F. W. Husman, secretary pro tempore [Secr. p. t.],
secretary; and Mr. F. W. Barthel, outgoing treasurer, general
treasurer.

b. All officers of the four district synods:

1) of the western district, Missouri, Illinois: Pastor G. A.
Schieferdecker, president; Pastor J. F. Bünger, vice-president; Pastor
C. A. Th. Selle, secretary; E. Roschke, treasurer;

2) of the middle district, Indiana, Ohio: Pastor and Professor
Dr. W. Sihler, president; Pastor H. C. Schwan, vice-president; Pastor
C. Fricke, secretary; Christ. Piepenbrink, treasurer;

3) of the northern district, Wisconsin, Michigan: Pastor O.
Fürbringer, president; Pastor G. Schaller, vice-president; Pastor F.
Lochner, secretary; Pastor W. Hattstädt, treasurer;

4) of the eastern district, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland,
District of Columbia (according to the report submitted by the
vice-president, Pastor Th. Brohm, who was charged by the Synod with
holding the officer election for this district only later): Pastor E.
G. W. Keyl, president; Pastor A. Hoyer, vice-president; Pastor K.
Diehlmann, secretary; Mr. J. H. Bergmann, treasurer.

Election of Standing Committees.

The Synod then moved on to the election of the standing committees,
the result of which was as follows:

a. as local members of the oversight board [Aufſichtsbehörde]: 1) for
the institution in St. Louis: Pastor H. Fick and Mr. Tschirpe; 2) for
the institution in Fort Wayne: Pastor H. C. Schwan and Mr. Christ.
Piepenbrink;
