HIGHER EDUCATION 259
WHEREAS, The theological reasons for implementing this
withdrawal from Saskatoon are still the same; and
WHEREAS, Our presence at the seminary will not change
these theological positions so that we can reach agreement but
rather that our students will be unduly influenced by the
historical-critical method in use there and by other doctrines
taught to which we cannot agree and over which we have no
control; therefore be it
Resolved, That we commend our Synod for its stand for
sound theological training for seminary students in Canada
also; and be it further
Resolved, To ask the Synod in convention in 1981 to carry
out this resolution 6-04A and withdraw from Saskatoon semi-
nary, directing students in Canada to attend the Lutheran
Theological Seminary in St. Catharines, Ont., until aseminary
can be established to serve the western provinces, possibly in
Edmonton, Alta.

To Permit Lutheran Church—Canada
to Decide Directions
of Theological Training
_ Wuereas, The quality of theological training is of utmost
importance; and
WHEREAS, It is necessary that there be true unity in the
church, and one seminary could contribute greatly to that
unity; and
WHEREAS, It is essential to the proclamation of the Gospel
and the recruitment of future pastors that we have a seminary
in the West; and
WHEREAS, Winnipeg has already been considered as the site
if one seminary is considered; and
WHEREAS, If a two-seminary option must be considered, the
Manitoba and Saskatchewan District, in its last District
convention, has already shown its support for a seminary in
Saskatoon; and
WHEREAS, There is a desire for an indigenous Lutheran
Church—Canada, and that it would appear logical for such a
body to make decisions regarding theological training; and
WHEREAS, This District should give clear direction to Lu-
theran Church—Canada in this matter; therefore be it
Resolved, That we request the Synod to repeal or amend
1979 St. Louis Res. 6-04A to allow the Lutheran Church—
Canada to resolve the matter of theological training; and be it
further
Resolved, That the Lutheran Church—Canada, after its
founding convention, consider as the highly desirable alterna-
tives for theological training either one seminary in an accept-
able location or two seminaries: with the one in the East in St.
Catharines and the one in the West being a new, permanent,
independent and parallel seminary in Saskatoon, sharing
facilities with the Lutheran Theological Seminary but having
its own Board of Control to oversee every aspect of theological
training; and be it finally
Resolved, That we request our District president to advise
our two sister Districts of this decision before their 1980
conventions.

To Reaffirm Decision to Withdraw
from Saskatoon Program
WHEREAS, The Synod in convention aftermuch deliberation
and hearing from delegates from each of the Canadian Dis-
tricts, including each of the District Presidents of the Canadian
Districts of the LCMS, passed Res. 6-04A regarding the
participation of the LCMS in the Saskatoon Seminary of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Lutheran
Church in America—Canada Section; and
WHEREAS, The Synod decided to phase out the participation
of the LCMS Districts of Canada in this seminary; and
WHEREAS, The congregation of Killarney Park Lutheran
Church is in full support of this action; therefore be it
Resolved, That the Synod assembled in convention reaffirm
its 1979 decision to withdraw and phase out our participation
in the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Saskatoon, Sask.,
Canada.

Saskatchewan District convention in 1980 requests the Synod
to appeal or amend Res. 6—04A; and

tion; therefore be it

To Enroll Western Canadians
at St. Catharines or in U.S.
WHEREAS, The Synod has established a seminary in St.
Catharines, Ont., as one means of training theological students
for full-time parish ministry in Canada; and
WHEREAS, The Lutheran Church—Canada has not yet
become an independent and autonomous church body in
Canada; and
WHEREAS, Sufficient time and study have not yet produced a
plan for the training of pastors in western Canada; therefore be
it
Resolved, That the men planning for full-time pastoral
ministry who live in western Canada be encouraged to attend
the seminary in St. Catharines, Ont., or one of the two LCMS
seminaries in the United States; and be it further
Resolved, That the Alberta and British Columbia and the
Manitoba and Saskatchewan Districts of the LCMS be
encouraged to offer financial support to these students should
circumstances warrant such financial support; and beit finally
Resolved, That congregations also be encouraged to assist
